Recommend me some YouTube workouts for beginners please

Today I worked out for the first time in 20 years! I did a Joe Wicks beginners workout which I did enjoy. Can anyone recommend any other workouts that I can try on YouTube as I think I need to vary what I do. Would love something with decent (indie) music if that exists.

Day 4 and I'm enjoying exercising, though I am finding it hard going. I walked with Leslie Sansone yesterday which was a bit easier. Went back to Joe Wicks today which was really tough. Ordered a sports bra straight after I'd finished it!!! Thanks for your suggestions - I will give them all a go.

@Yourownpersonaljesus
6 weeks ago I started with Team Body Project on YouTube. i always stopped with joe wicks after 2/3 weeks.
These workouts are low impact, high intensity, all standing (I hate burpees) and great to get started with moving your body and exercising and are a doable length at 30 mins each. This is the first one I did and have worked my way through their videos on YouTube. Can not recommend them highly enough! Honestly give them a go, I look forward to my workout with them. I also like that they have actual people who joined their workouts doing the videos with them.

Lucy Wyndham-Read has some great YouTube videos. I like that she has some 7 minute videos too so sometimes I tell myself I will do one video but usually end up doing a few. I'm a reluctant exerciser at heart but am much fitter since doing these videos.

Another recommendation for team body project, they have something for everyone and the couple who makes them are so lovely and supportive.

Yourownpersonaljesus · 27/08/2020 20:11

Thank you. I've just completed Team Body Project's low impact beginner workout as a few people have recommended them on here. I really enjoyed it, though it was tough. I have a question - when does it start to get easier?! I've added Lucy Wyndham-Read to my list.

@Yourownpersonaljesus stick with it it honestly does. I started with the one I posted further up and did it for a whole week (I did it each day) before moving to another video. I now find that low impact beginner one too easy! Stick with it, you’ve got this

Yourownpersonaljesus · 29/08/2020 12:07

Thanks RedRum27. I did the one you linked to above today and I think that was more my level! I did this one a couple of days ago and found Alex's bits really hard going:
How long have you been working out for now?

The body project ones do have different levels.
I think rest, hydration and nutrition are all important right from the start of any exercise. You are making changes are starting to progress right now. It is hard to know when you will know you have improved. You can make yourself a baseline test like Joe Wicks does, measure resting heartbeat, take sets of body measurements and so on.
Improvement rates also depend on your age, base fitness, technique and so on. I would say 10 days to see any changes and a month to measure success.

Yourownpersonaljesus · 29/08/2020 13:14

Thank you Panticles. I am also eating more healthily and drinking more water. I am aiming to lose 2 stone and improve my fitness. I am extremely unfit - the only exercise I was doing before I started this was walking the dog! I used to exercise a lot years ago (gym, classes, home workouts, swimming and some running) and I did actually enjoy it. Realistically I don't expect to get back to the level of fitness I was at years ago but I hate being overweight and unfit and have finally decided that I really need to do something about it. I've spent the last 10 years making excuses! I'm particularly worried about developing type 2 diabetes. I'm in my 50s and work full time.

This week is my 7th week...glad you enjoyed the video. Ha, yes Alex always does the high impact and Daniel tends to do the low. Many of the comments on YouTube mention if Alex is leading a workout it’ll be hard work which is true but if I find her hard I just do a lower impact version of the move. Luckily they have workouts with people that are starting their fitness journey so don’t look fitness ‘pros’ necessarily - I like that because they also break a sweat like you.

Another vote for Lucy Wyndham-Read. I've lost two inches from my waist in a couple of weeks from aher 7 minute workouts (which actually take a grand total of 12 minutes with warm up, cool down etc). My DH recommend her - he is in the military and has put on a bit of weight during lockdown and tried several different ways to lose it. After day one he said this won't do anything, on day two he said I rate this woman, on day three he was singing her praises so highly I decided to give it a go.

LiGlitterBug · 30/08/2020 00:06

I’ve really been enjoying emkfit’s HIIT dance videos. Had a real blast from the past with her emo/pop punk one and her 80s and 90s ones are really fun too. I like her style too, very different from the usual glam, calm and polished trainers you get.

She also does more ‘traditional’ workout vids and some music challenge ones.

I have been mostly using emkfit and Madfit on YouTube, with some Darebee weights workouts and have lost my pregnancy weight and gained more defined abs, toned legs and toned arms in three months. I am honestly shocked at how easy it was (and I am someone who used to hate sports and exercise! The type who had a period every PE lesson and wouldn’t even run for a bus! Now I’m working out 6 nights a week and enjoying it.)

Thanks all. I really appreciate you all taking the time to add your recommendations.
