Which Garmin? Venu or Vivoactive 4?

Which is better? The Venu or the Vivoactive 4 - the former is more £££ but is it worth the extra £70?

I have saved up and I want to get a watch I can wear all the time.
I run 3x a week and also do some workouts in between

I was looking at the 2 myself recently and went with the vivoactive 4. The only main difference I was told was the screen. The screen on the Venu is gorgeous but I didn't like that it went to black to save battery whereas the va4 is reflective and always visible. I didn't feel the differences justified the additional cost and felt I'd be just paying for a colourful screen.

I absolutely love my VA4

Thankyou SpideyMom - I wasn't really sure what an "AMOLED" screen even was! but if it isn't always on then yes, not really a big selling point.
I do like the light sand colourway of the Venu - but is that really worth £70....

I have now also realised I have a hole forming in my trainers, so that may also have swayed the balance to the Vivoactive too!

AMOLED is the screen. I have a Samsung phone and the screen's are always so vibrant and gorgeous. But I don't know how necessary it is on a watch?

There's a really good review on YouTube, I will try and get the link for you. Basically if I remember correctly, the only real main difference is the screen. So when it got to the part where it said to save battery the screen does switch off, my mind was made up. I like that the VA4 can be used as a watch too so I dont have to keep pressing buttons to see what time time is. I also love the downloadable watch faces so you can keep making if look different if you wish.

I actually don't see a problem with the screen on the vivoactive 4. In fact I really like it. Even the coloured parts of the screen, though there are differences between that and an AMOLED screen im definitely not disappointed.

I really do love the watch and would recommend it to anybody. I hope you enjoy whichever watch you choose

Hi @SpideyMom I got my va4s and even though my birthday isn't for 2 and a half weeks yet, I have it on today Grin I went out on a bike ride earlier to test it out. I'm still discovering all the features and what it can do.

SpideyMom · 17/07/2020 19:50

@nbee84 haha I knew you wouldn't wait. You will love it. Ive been out the last 3 days with it. I admit i am new to these things but the information it give you back is brilliant and so far is keeping me on track.

I didn't think of looking at youtube reviews - I will go have a look

You have swayed me to the VA4 though Grin

I’ve just bought a Vivoactive 4S (the slightly smaller model than the 4). Spent a lot of time researching and comparing with the Venu. I liked the sand one too, but you can buy replacement straps on Amazon so can easily change the colour!

Picking it up on Tuesday. Am excited! It was hard to find one in stock anywhere (I’ve gone for the pink one), found one in Argos in the end but Garmin website are showing a wait-time of 5-8 weeks.

I have the Venu. The screen is lovely and it's an aesthetically-pleasing watch. I like that it will count your lengths in the swimming pool - not sure whether the VA4 does that? (Although I haven't been able to use that function since March, of course...)

You can have the screen on all the time but it hammers the battery. It's actually OK though; when you lift your wrist to check the time it automatically activates the screen.

It's lovely and light, despite having a big screen. My last Garmin was a beast of a thing and you really felt the weight of it.

My only complaint with the watch is that it's a pain for losing connection to my phone (iPhone 11). It pairs fine but seems to lose the link overnight when the phone is in a different room from my watch (which is on my wrist all night). It doesn't automatically reconnect the next day; I have to flick Bluetooth on and off on my phone while in the Garmin app. Only takes a few seconds but it makes me quite cross!

I have the 245 (not the music one) but we'll worth a look.

I wear it daily as it's an activity tracker too so steps heart rate sleep body battery etc.

GPS is fab and really quick to lock on and really accurate.

Also use it to track bike rides, gym workouts, exercise classes and yoga. It's a fab watch. Plus it's purple

I have the vivoactive 4s, it's really amazing, not sure what more a different screen would provide in the other model tbh.
