How to start building up fitness after a back injiry

Hi all, looking for some help. I slipped a disc in my back about two years ago. Very slow recovery involving spinal injections and inflamed hip etc that had to be dealt with. I’ve been fully better about 10 months. I do Pilates once a week now and I go for a walk once a week (aside from getting around 5,000 steps in everyday walking to and from work). However I am very very unfit. Got out of breath easily walking fast to get a train last week. My problem is I don’t know what to do exercise wise to improve. Even though I’m better now I’m afraid to do anything more than Pilates in case I hurt my back again.

Does anyone have any tips on what exercise I could go? I was thinking if I could find a class to go to. Or if I should get a personal trainer to do weights with me (Educogym). My stamina is very poor and I get out of breath easily. I’m about a stone over my ideal weight and making moves to lose that but I’m a size 12 so not actually overweight - my BMI etc is fine.

Any help appreciated!

A good personal trainer would help you put a programme together I reckon. Also swimming could be good; especially backstroke if you can do it ?

Agree with a well-qualified personal trainer to give you some guidance.
