Having just found out that I have got a charity place for the London 2020 Marathon I need to start thinking about training and looking after myself a bit more.

I have been looking at Apple watches. I like the idea of being able to go for a run, not have to take my phone with me but still be able to connect to music (I have AirPods already) and be contactable if needed.

However they are an awful lot of money! Does anyone have any suggestions for other wearables that would offer similar features and be compatible with iPhone and AirPods? Also that look nice, track route and HR?

I've got a Garmin Forerunner, there are quite a few versions at different price points, some with heart rate monitoring (I use a chest strap though as it's more accurate). I Iove mine and wear it as my watch all the time, not just when I'm running. It links with my phone via Bluetooth, so you could control your music if you took your phone. I don't like leaving my phone at home, just in case I get injured and want rescuing (or get lost on new routes!), but I carry it in my Flipbelt around my hips/waist so I'm not carrying it in my hand or on an arm band.

Garmin is better for running data, and you can use Spotify with the higher end models.

Also, would you consider getting Aftershokz headphones? Bone conduction ones are considerably safer when running out of doors. On a safety note, you may want to have your phone with you - certainly once longer runs are part of your training (assuming you will be going for longer routes, not multiples of a local lap)
