Netflix to watch at the gym

LowLifeOpinions · 05/02/2019 17:57

I've just joined a gym for the first time in a long time. I know that watching something on Netflix that I'm only allowed to watch at the gym will be hugely helpful to me. Does anyone else do this and what do you watch?

I do this, it motivates me to actually look forward to working out. i have been watching 'Great News' on netflix, which i have been enjoying x

Thanks for the recommendation! I'm considering whether to watch something about fitness but I may find that depressing in the first few months.

I've been watching Vikings on Amazon Prime - do you have that?

I admit I prefer to watch something that's a bit more 'active' to keep me going. I tried watching more chill out stuff like Grace and Frankie but I just found myself unconsciously slowing down my workout...

LowLifeOpinions · 06/02/2019 15:11

I've downloaded Vikings, thanks! And I watched Mad Men on the treadmill this morning, it worked well. Over ear noise cancelling headphones were fine but not sure how they will be when I work up a proper sweat.

Gilmore Girls?

weeblueberry · 06/02/2019 15:23

I've got these ones:

www.amazon.co.uk/JBL-T110-Wireless-Ear-Headphones-White/dp/B075KMC7NP/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=jbl+tune+110bt&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1549466577&sr=8-2

They're technically not noise cancelling but because they fit so well in the ear I've found they still manage to drown out the very loud gym music and allow me to hear what I'm watching!

I've downloaded some Ted talks as well. I have spent a LONG time choosing my gym entertainment. Grin

I watch friends! It helps me segment my workout easier. I do an episode on the hike, episode on treadmill etc

LowLifeOpinions · 06/02/2019 21:16

I'm not sure I'm quite going to be able to watch tv while I'm on weight machines, tbh. Maybe I'll have to switch to podcasts for that bit :)

I love “the good place”

Great news and Kimmy Schmidt are fun

Not a gym fan but I have started listening to audio books while running. I had a lovely run with Michelle Obama at the weekend.

If you want something fitness related, try strong. Very silly but very watchable.

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 06/02/2019 21:23

You can put the sub titles on for some Netflix shows - Mad Men is one, I usually put them on as my headphones don't always cancel out the gym music.

MrsJamin · 08/02/2019 20:09

Definitely listen to podcasts rather than watch stuff. I'd recommend Fit and Fearless BBC podcast, they talk about fitness stuff which is encouraging as well as interesting.

PivotPivotPivottt · 08/02/2019 23:39

This is probably a stupid question but can I ask how you watch stuff at the gym (I'm new to the gym)Blush. The treadmills at mine have a screen to watch live TV and I stick Netflix on my phone and sit it on a ledge on the exercise bike but from reading your post it sounds like you have a better way!

oneyearnobeer · 09/02/2019 05:13

Russian Doll and Black Mirror.

Russian Doll has some of the cast from Orange is the New Black and is so good. Also the episodes are quite short (25 mins).

LowLifeOpinions · 11/02/2019 15:26

I just lean my phone on the ledge in front of the screen on the machine. Sorry, not clever!

I watch three types of film that work. In order from least to most effective:

Scary. Walking Dead, type of thing. Makes me want to run.

Angry. 3 Blokes in a Pub, makes me rageful about Brexit and therefore run faster.

Dancey. Pitch Perfect. Active and cheer me up.

PivotPivotPivottt · 17/02/2019 18:09

LowLife ahh I thought that might be it I do that on the exercise bike and cross trainer. I thought maybe your gym had fancy machines with built in NetflixGrin. The treadmills at mine you can watch live TV on but I've not tried it yet.
