At the tender age of 47.....

I just learned to swim properly. ☺️☺️

I could swim after a fashion already but it was hard work and no proper technique. My last swimming lessons were in primary school (a considerable time ago). I've had to give up running having done it since I was in school because of arthritis. I can now do proper breaststroke, with my face in the water and everything. 😂

Swimming is my new exercise along with yoga 3x a week. I just wanted to have a little brag. ☺️

Brilliant Thanks

OP, I'm madly jealous. I'm 47 too and the entire household is fit or getting fit. I've totally regressed with swimming. The only thing I would mastered now is the star float. And I used to be able to swim but never the breast stroke or butterfly.

FestiveForestieraNoel · 24/11/2018 07:37

Have mastered now not would...

SuperSange · 24/11/2018 08:36

But you can! It only took a total of two hours. And I was a dire case; wouldn't put my face in, didn't know how to breathe, I was doing breaststroke arms and butterfly legt😳. The legs were at the wrong time. It was a shitshow. 😂

Well done. I am same age as you and really like swimming. I have recently come back to it and can now put my face under for breaststroke. I can for front crawl but find my goggles get too much water in. I have zero technique! I can't get there at a regular time for lessons so not sure how I am going to improve next.

motortroll · 24/11/2018 09:00

Oh I've been meaning to get some lessons for ages! I'm actually quite good at breaststroke but my crawl is appalling. I look like I'm calling for help!!

I've been out of running for a while due to injury and just started back and I want to diversify because the only next step for running is marathon no 2 and not sure I really want to! Im keen on triathlon but my husband is bike obsessed and I have to psych myself up for his interfering if I start riding lol

Well done you.

Glitteryfrog · 24/11/2018 21:38

@GOODCAT sounds like you need new goggles.
Also if you wear a swimming hat it helps keep the straps on properly - they don't slide down your hair.

AnotherPidgey · 25/11/2018 00:02

Well done!

I learned in adult lessons at 16. I didn't pick it up in 5 years of school lessons, but got the basics in a few months with a teacher in the water to actually show me how to swim, then went from 25m to a mile in less than a year.

Because so many learn in childhood, it's quite hard psychologically to actually start lessons in adulthood.

GOODCAT · 25/11/2018 10:27

@glitteryfrog thank you I don't wear a swimming hat so will try that and get new goggles if that isn't enough to make the difference

Wow, you deserve to have a brag, that's a fantastic achievement and a bold target to set yourself. Enjoy your swimming!
