Starting this again, did the NHS one last year (part of it) but the music is aaaawful...are there better versions anyone can recommend?

I just use my own music from my phone. It mutes it when there is announcements (ie walk now) but the rest of the time it’s just my playlists.

Distancehelp, that sounds perfect. Apologies if it's a stupid question but how do you get it to do that?? Blush

I seem to recall that the NHS version is podcasts rather than an app? So don't think you could use your own music without pausing the podcast. I used the C25K app which does play your own music and just muted it. There are lots of similar apps. Also just noticed that there is a Public Health England app called One You Couch to 5K, haven't yet tried it but it says you can use your own music

I have the app which is called couch to 5k. You choose the voice of it (I have Sarah Milligan) and it’s sponsored by the nhs. I press play on that, then go to my music and press play on that.

cinnabarmoth · 30/08/2018 07:57

@Distancehelp that must be the same as the Public Health England one as that has Sarah Millican among others , it looks good!

Ah,fab, thanks for replying! I've been using an old MP3 player so will try on of the apps and have a play without. Thankyou, it just makes it a lot more interesting having decent music to listen to!

It's nearly 5 years since I started C25k with the podcast and I still use the C25k+ podcasts. I've grown strangely fond of the naff music on it Grin I will defend it by saying that the beat is pitched well for running and it can take a while to pick the right tracks for your speed. It's easy to go for too fast and struggle.

Lovelydovey · 30/08/2018 14:17

The Zombies run version uses your own music. Clearly I am motivated more by being chased by zombies than by true thought of exercise.

JoyceDivision · 30/08/2018 21:53

There is absolutely no danger of me going too fast. I can struggle perfectly well without the risk of speed Grin

I even got heckled last night by someone shouting "You're too slow" Shock But they were right Grin

Shame on that heckler!

"If you run, you are a runner. It doesn't matter how fast or how far. It doesn't matter if today is your first day or if you've been running for twenty years. There is no test to pass, no license to earn, no membership card to get. You just run.”

I’ve got a paid app called 5k runner which works with my own music. I start up Spotify and then start the app and my music keeps playing. The running app just beeps when I have to run and makes a different noise when I should walk again. It also rings a bell for the halfway point and (very occasionally) says “you’re doing it!” Or “you’re awesome!” In a cheesy American accent.

Strava works with your own music as well, but doesn’t give you a set programme like the couch to 5k ones do. It does announce your time every mile/km though.

Tsotofamily · 31/08/2018 21:53

I've just started c25k again and I use youtube, I made a playlist of songs that got me moving.

JoyceDivision · 31/08/2018 23:42

Cool, picked an app to start with, so will see how that goes and then can use other suggestions if it doesn't work Smile
