Any rowers out there?

After many years of thinking about it, I've finally signed up to learn how to row. So far I haven't been on the water. Just practicing on the ergs.
Any rowers have some helpful advice or tips? Things I can do between sessions to try to remember it all.
I'm particularly worried about getting in and out of the boat after being told you can't stand on the bottom. How do you do it?

Racing boats are extremely flimsy, as they are designed to weigh as little as possible. Before you try, I'd ask your coach or another member of the crew to show you how they do it. It should be brought up close to a landing stage (wobbly pontoons make it harder) so you can crouch down and slide your bum onto the seat then get your feet in.

Once on the water, you will (all) need to pay a lot of attention to balancing the boat, as they have no keel. Other than that, keep in rhythm and listen to coach and cox, and have fun!
