As in is it v damaging to one’s body? Been invited to join in one having just completed one on Sunday. I am not an amazing runner. But I do now have the half marathon fitness levels and am contemplating it! Am I silly to be considering it/ tempted?

It’s a case of you know best really, very helpful I know! I’ve done it when I’ve been training for a race, I just reduced my mileage during the week.

If you’ve got the fitness levels and didn’t instantly think eugh no then you’ll be fine! Grin

Yes of course it’s safe!

Yeah it’s fine. I’m marathon training atm and so Running a half or more weekly for the next 8 weeks.

I guess it isn’t the distance so much as the effort and speed involved when racing rather than doing a weekly long run. I am tempted but not sure what training to do vs tapering etc....

Definitely safe, just make sure you listen to your body! So slow down if you need to, and take a rest day or two to recover afterwards.

RunningAddict · 27/02/2018 16:11

Did you follow a training plan for your first half? If you did, then just repeat the final two weeks, that should then provide you with a decent taper.

If you didn’t follow one just google, BUPA do a really good one Smile

I don't see why not, a lot of people marathon training will do at least this distance every week in their long run!

Thethingswedoforlove · 27/02/2018 16:42

Thanks. Am not quite able to follow the last two weeks as I need to recover for a few days following the race on Sunday but all good advice. Thanks. Lily: wasn’t so much the distance as the overall effort as a race is different from a weekly long run....

There's a local guy who I vaguely know through someone in the office who ran 401 marathons in 401 days a couple of years ago. He still seems to be in one piece! Grin
