Cooling down after the gym - tips?

I've recently got back into the habit (well I lie, I'm trying to get back into it) of going to the gym before work. It's great, I feel energised all day and really positive. The only problem is I take a packed rush hour train to work and I've found I'm still sweating an hour after my workout! Is that normal? I've showered and everything, but somehow it creeps up on me after! It's a bit uncomfortable and embarrassing on the train. Any tips on how I should cool down more effectively? Cold shower? Or will it get better as I get fitter? Thanks!

A couple of fags outside?

That could work...

The other option is not to go at all? Grin

Joking aside, yes it will calm down as you get fitter. Do you do a proper warm-down after your exercise? This will help lower your heart rate, breathing etc, otherwise with all the activity in the shower, getting dressed etc your body will still be active and your HR and BR will be raised.

Agree with Ifailed

A minimum of a 15 minute warm down would help, bringing your heart rate down. If you have the space, lay down for 5 minutes and try to feel the aching from your exercise, sweeping out of your body, whilst bringing your breathing back to normal

Definitely a cold shower. Start with a warm one, wash then turn the shower to cold and stand under it for 30 seconds.

Thanks everyone for the tips. I think the cool down is where I'm going wrong, I do one but I usually rush it a bit and don't lie down and stretch properly so will try that!

It takes your body ages to stop sweating after a work out. Dont get straight in a shower as you'll still sweat after.

Slow walk on a treadmill and also just sit quietly for a few mins before a shower.
