Sweaty Betty. TOO BLOODY EXPENSIVE

I got a £50 voucher for Xmas. A generous gift, no?
There is fuck all I can buy from there for that. I mean, who spends £200 on a sports top.

I do have a lovely running top from a few years ago and thought I'd be able to get something like that. Maybe I need to wait until Spring.

Their clothes go up to a size 16. And it's entirely their call if they want to market themselves as "aspirational" sports wear.

Their sales are brilliant. And their zero gravity leggings are brilliant. I love their athlete vests. Really long and bum covering. Some of the things I've ordered though seem to consist of nothing more than a small piece of chiffon for £60. Those went straight back.

lljkk · 17/02/2018 22:16

I'd also like to know just WTF do you get by spending £65 for SBetty leggings rather than £12 from Sports Direct.

TheOrigRightsofwomen · 19/02/2018 07:21

lljkk They say SB rather than Karrimor on them!

classicchristmas · 19/02/2018 07:24

They last a hell of a lot longer and fit beautifully that's the difference between SB and Sports Direct. Same with Lululemon.

BigGreenOlives · 19/02/2018 07:26

They last longer & are more comfortable. If you don’t want to spend more don’t but some people can & do. They’ll also be paying more VAT so that’s a benefit to us all. I’ve bought from H&M, TKMaxx, various on line sports discount retailers & would rather buy one expensive pair a year than multiple cheap pairs, my choice.

AuntieStella · 19/02/2018 07:35

I think they do well because it looks more like a clothes shop than a sports shop, and going in to eg a running shop can be intimidating. But that's a really misplaced feeling. Proper sports shops have friendly staff who know their stuff, they know their stock (and have tried a fair amount of it themselves or talked to mates who wear it).

The materials are good, don't go thinner/see through when stretched, generally have a good rise (is that the right term for being comfy and long enough in the crotch?) and have plenty of useful features like pockets and drawstrings.

And even the specialist brands are less expensive than Sweaty Betty (full) price, and yes they do have sales/discounts. I love 2XU (compressions gear) but won't pay the full price for it.

BarbaraofSevillle · 19/02/2018 07:36

Could you sell or exchange the voucher if you don't want to wait for the sale? Look on moneysavingexpert for sites that do this safely.

I read about a really good cheaper fitness wear site a couple of weeks ago, it begins with Z and is owned by the man who owns Sport Direct but unfortunately I can't remember the name.

BigGreenOlives · 19/02/2018 07:48

Zakti - owned by Mountain Warehouse. They have a few branches, Islington, Chiswick, can’t remember where else. Their leggings etc are good & a friend of mine is thrilled with her coat from there, very warm & waterproof.

By the way SB was set up by a woman who wanted better sportswear for women. The branches hold free yoga classes & running clubs.

AlbertaSimmons · 19/02/2018 07:58

I asked for only SB vouchers for Xmas and got £250 worth, which I spent in the sale. I got two pairs of leggings and two tops. I love the tops - long and don’t ride up whatever you do. Sizing, like everywhere these days, is erm generous, especially the leggings which are very long and loose, so if you’re a bit bigger, don’t worry too much. In fact, in my local SB shop, one of the assistants is very generously endowed in the bottom department - I would say bigger than a size 16- and she wears the product.

BarbaraofSevillle · 19/02/2018 08:48

That's the one. Thanks olives.

carrie74 · 01/03/2018 08:19

Sale on now. Just ordered £200 worth of stuff Shock, most will be going back, but great prices on leggings

BigGreenOlives · 01/03/2018 08:24

Ooh, thanks

PickleSarnie · 01/03/2018 11:43

I just ordered some ski baselayers. Whoops.

TheOrigRightsofwomen · 01/03/2018 13:23

I can't get the website to work. I get so far, then it won't let me add to basket - just completely unresponsive.
Customer care phone engaged.
Tried different browsers.

I'm going to miss out now.

TheOrigRightsofwomen · 01/03/2018 16:44

Got it to work and got some zero gravity or bum sculpting leggings or something completely wanky! Yay.

Total Sweaty Betty items in wardrobe = 2

PickleSarnie · 01/03/2018 18:37

Zero gravity leggings are awesome TheOrig I have four pairs of them (all bought in sale obvs. They have such nice patterns that somehow don't accentuate my sizeable thighs.

weetabix07 · 06/03/2018 13:25

I agree. There ridiculously over priced. That said the leggings are excellent quality. I just a pair half price in the sale and even with it came to £40. The bags etc are totally overpriced - I wouldn't buy one of those.

weetabix07 · 06/03/2018 14:34

I've just ordered a bra - £55 down to £16 🤗

carrie74 · 06/03/2018 21:58

My haul order arrived yesterday and it's gooood Grin. I'll keep these leggings, 2 bra tops (one of which matches a pair of leggings I bought in the Xmas sales - winning!), and possibly 2 vest tops. Returning another pair of leggings which were totally see through on the squat test, another vest top and a sweat top which I like, but I have the same in another colour, and it's not worn brilliantly - developed holes in the front after a year of not that much wear.

carrie74 · 06/03/2018 22:00

They're nice Orig. The prices were great in this sale, but you definitely needed to get in quick. There's not much left. But it all seems to get recycled (hence my being able to buy the bra top in these sales but out of stock in last sales - clearly lots of returns!).

DownThePan · 04/05/2020 17:33

I love Sweaty Betty leggings - the high-waist cut is super flattering and the quality is great but the price tag is pretty steep so here's a £25 discount voucher off any £50 spend which should hopefully make the clothes a vaguely OK price!

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 04/05/2020 22:11

Ooh spooky I've been eyeing up SB the last few days. Those codes may be helpful Flabby and Down.

I'm generally a small in Nike running leggings ( F knows how as I ain't small in anything else!) and I'm usually a 10/12 dress size, 5ft 6 with fairly chunky calves and thighs from running and weights.

Can anyone recommend which size? I'm very crap at getting this right and can't be arsed with returns at the mo.

DownThePan · 05/05/2020 14:03

@tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz I think Medium should be a good fit. The waist on most leggings has that drawstring that you can pull them in if too loose. Also worth noting is that the full length leggings are quite long so capri or 7/8 might be best.
