Which is the best fitness tracker?

Is the Fitbit the best of the best of do the cheaper ones do the trick? I have a really cheap one which is fine but it doesn't count steps if I'm actively swinging my arm, so if I'm pushing a trolley or linking arms with an elderly client I'm not tracking the steps.
Is there one that works of heart rate to gauge how many calories you burn a day?

I don't keep my phone in my pocket all the time to use that.
Something I can wear whilst washing my hands (I'm a community care worker so I did this a lot) is a must.

Most trackers can't track very well when pushing a trolley or generally anytime you need to keep arm fairly still.

Something like the moov that can be worn around the ankle could be better? Or one of the ones designed to clip onto clothing (they use different algorithms to wrist worn devices to work out what constitutes a step)?

Also heart rate wise - most trackers are notoriously inaccurate. Some of the most expensive ones are starting to get quite accurate though.

Garmin's newer devices are supposedly more accurate for heart rate than Fitbit.

I’ve just got a Garmin Vivosport which I like a lot more than my Fitbit.

I absolutely love my Garmin Vivo Sport❤️, it does everything much better than any other Garmin I've ever had
I especially love it because it tells me that I have a VO2 Max of a very fit 20 year old and I am 52😁

viva & tuna I've actually been looking at the Garmin vivosport! Trying to decide whether to change from my fitbit flex2 because I want a screen but still want waterproof and smallish. So viva why do you like the garmin vivosport more than your Fitbit?

VivaLeBeaver · 05/01/2018 16:28

Seems better quality. The straps on my fitbit used to crack taking the battery out for charging. I like being able to use the different sports modes for cycling and weights or a gym class. Apparently it will act as a pacer for outdoor runs. My old fitbit didn't tell the time so this is good that it does.

the vivo sport has wrist based heart rate monitoring, I previously used a standalone mio wrist hrm, this garmin one has been much more accurate and reliable so far

I switched from a Fitbit to a Garmin forerunner 35 last year and so glad I did. I much, much prefer it. It's way more accurate - particularly with picking up steps as my Fitbit regaulrly undercounted by up to 20%! It's also got GPS so I don't NEED my phone when I go out running. (I do still take my phone for music but that's the only reason.) The battery life is also brilliant (usually around 8-9 days) and it's quick to charge when needed. The screen is bigger than my Fitbit was but I have small wrists and it doesn't look too big at all, and is also really comfortable. It's also a nice looking device and I like that I can have my watch face in analogue because I hate digital watches. I'd never go back to Fitbit and DH has also just swapped over and loves his new Garmin too. It's pretty telling when you go to any races that almost everyone is wearing a Garmin!

The Garmin forerunner 35 does look nice @Jed, I was using a garmin FR 620 which I was happy with but it was quite big and when you upload the workouts they all show us a running so I'd have to change manually to strength training, cycling swimming ect if I wanted my workout calendar to reflect what I'd actually done.
With the VS I can select the type of workout and it shows up as that when I upload, presume the FR 35 is the same in that respect?

Ignore how slow i am. I'm on a 1970s bike with 3 gears and 20" wheels and it's hilly.

Jedbartletforpresident · 05/01/2018 17:44

Yes - you can choose what activity you're doing on the forerunner from cardio, walk, run outdoor, run indoor or cycle.
