I've signed up to this along with a few work colleagues. Having never made it past week 6 of C25K, January is going to be interesting!

Anyone else taking part?

Fizzy, did a go refer you to a physio or you just googled? I get knee pain too - flat is fine but up/down hill even just walking and it can twinge and then is painful. Really need it looked at as I'm not getting any younger and it's not getting any better!

Been out today for walk/run. Bit blustery but still improved my pace on day 1 so I'm happy with that. Back to work tomorrow so hopefully won't ache as much as I did on day 2!

@dropzoneone I asked within my running group for a recommendation and paid privately. The physio is a fellow club runner. He was excellent! I’m very bruised today tho! I’ve walked all around Manchester with the kids today so I’m achy and tired but I’ll do the foam roller exercises when I get home too :)

UrgentScurryfunge · 05/01/2018 15:59

I'm having a go and successfully managed 5 short runs this week. The weather isn't motivating and the back to school routine is a bit fragmented, but I'm already feeling a sense of achievement. Normally a couple of km feels like I'm coasting and not trying (I run up to HM) but I'm appreciating that each little run is of value in its own right.

DropZoneOne · 05/01/2018 20:33

Well done Urgent! From what I've read, part of the point of RED January is that it's hard to be motivated after Christmas when it's cold, wet and dark - easy to feel January "blues". Anything you do to boost the endorphins is worthwhile. Keep at it!

First day back at work today after two weeks off so I've just been out for a brisk 2 mile walk. Was a challenge not to just get in and slump on the sofa - especially as there was a glass of wine waiting for me!

I have done something every day so far. Today I got a new PB at parkrun, I’m so happy! :) total this month is 15km. Which considering my knee issues, is great for me :)

SocksRock · 07/01/2018 14:31

I haven’t been out today. Somebody shout at me. DH has just gone to the tip with the last of the Christmas stuff and I can go when he gets back. It’s about -2 outside and windy. I’m already in my running stuff as I changed for junior parkrun this morning and then didn’t run as they were short on marshals so I volunteered instead and didn’t change when I got back so I would be ready to go out this afternoon...

I’ve also got to pack a bag for work tomorrow as the only chance I will get to run is in my lunch. I’m on the 6.40am bus and don’t get home until 6pm, and DH goes straight from work to his club on a Monday so literally lunch break and that’s it. Apparently we have showers at work but I don’t know where, they are in the building across the road from my actual office so I’m going to need to factor in time for finding them. Luckily I don’t wear makeup or anything smart for work so I can get away with it!

Fizzyknickers · 07/01/2018 15:07

@socksrock, do it! You’ll feel better for it!

I’ve just done a slow jog/quick walk 5km with the dogs and a child on her bike at the beach :) day7 done :)

SocksRock · 07/01/2018 16:52

Did it. 3.5k and I’ve hit 12,000 steps for the day as well so I’m happy. And a fine old pace (for me I appreciate it’s not quick by some people’s standards!)

I’m really enjoying my RED January, especially as my 13 yr old DS is doing it with me. The downside is that my plantar faciatis (sp?) has flared up. Does anyone know if I’ll cause permanent damage if I just ignore it and keep running?

shortaris1 · 07/01/2018 18:33

Well done socks and fizzy* Just a walk done here today as I was hungover but better than nothing and have done something every day.

DropZoneOne · 07/01/2018 20:13

Well done everyone! I've been away for the weekend, so missed yesterday but managed to squeeze in a 20 minute run/walk this morning - the puddles were still frozen, by jove it was cold!

really no idea I'm afraid, hopefully someone more knowledgeable can help

My strava total for the first week was 20 miles, which included three parkruns (a NY double last Monday and my usual on Saturday) and a range of 1-3 mile runs on other days. Went for a super long meandering walk across town yesterday as well to take full advantage of the rare January blue skies, ramped up to over 27k steps for the day! Bloody cold but it was nice. Smile

DropZoneOne · 08/01/2018 23:26

27k steps mushy Shock were you walking all day?!

I've done a 30 minute walk today. Tomorrow or Wednesday should be a run day but I'm out both days so not sure where to fit in.

How's everyone else getting on? Anyone got their t-shirt?

OP posts:
givemushypeasachance · 09/01/2018 09:33

I did an approx 3 mile jog first thing and was then out pretty much from 10am to 4pm, some purposeful walking and some moseying about in and out of shops, so yeah pretty much all day given the shortage of light! Grin

Two mile jog in the drizzle after work yesterday. Adjusted bin day for us this morning, so had to do a lot of wheelie bin and recycling box dodging on the pavement last night! No t-shirt here yet...

SocksRock · 09/01/2018 10:13

I’m waiting for my friend so we can for our run today. It’s bloody Baltic outside though. I will do to!
I have my tshirt, I registered early November so I had mine before the start of January. Been ironing stars on for each day!

Fizzyknickers · 09/01/2018 23:17

Still plodding on, didn’t run yesterday but I still managed to hit my 30 minute exercise target which is what I’m aiming for. 5.6km this evening though :)

DropZoneOne · 13/01/2018 21:57

How's everyone getting on? Love the stars on the t-shirt!

Unfortunately, I twisted my ankle on Wednesday so have failed miserably to walk very far at all since then. Hoping to get out tomorrow for a decent walk and fingers crossed it's ok. I already strap my knee up, could do without strapping my ankle too!

OP posts:
givemushypeasachance · 15/01/2018 09:35

Well I've managed to do some running outside everyday so far - my totals were 20.5 miles for the first week and 16.5 miles for the second week. With the New Year's Day double parkruns in that first week not surprised it's a bit more than a regular week! See what the second half of the month brings.

Still no t-shirt here, alas...

Fizzyknickers · 15/01/2018 16:08

Well done give

I’ve had a slack week really. Only been on the treadmill since Tuesday. But I’ve hit my exercise goal (Apple Watch) every day this month So far, which is my goal :)

shortaris1 · 16/01/2018 22:37

Ouch drop hope it gets better soon.

I've done something everyday and been running 3 times a week. T-shirt here but its like a dress Grin as my name would suggest!

reallyneedmoresleep · 17/01/2018 09:17

Have managed to run at least 2km outside every day- usually 3 or 4 km. I’m so tired! My legs feel stronger but the rest of me is sooo weary. Anyone else struggling?

hopeful123 · 27/01/2018 00:09

This thread motivated me to start January running 5 times a week after months of no exercise. Still doing it. Keep it up!

UrgentScurryfunge · 28/01/2018 00:16

I've managed to run most days this month and have recorded some exercise every day so far. My toughest day to fit in was last weekend when for quite a variety of reasons, a short yoga DVD was the best way to achieve something.

givemushypeasachance · 29/01/2018 10:05

Still ticking over here with some running every day. Smile So far my shortest day was literally around the block, 0.3 miles - I'd been at work then off to visit friends and it was after 9pm, raining and really didn't have the time to go get soaked on a longer run just before bed. But yesterday evening I did 5 miles and it felt good. I also hit a decent PB at parkrun on Saturday, I thought running every day would kacker me and I'd go slower! Yes had heavy legs and it's been a slog sometimes but maybe the inadvertent training up from increased miles is doing me some good as well. Currently at 78 miles for the month, if you'd told me I'd have done that this time last year when I couldn't run for a bus I'd have collapsed laughing!

shortaris1 · 31/01/2018 20:27

Done! Dead proud of myself
