Walking for fitness

I've not done much exercise since becoming a parent. I work FT (desk job) and I am a single parent - getting to the gym or pool isn't really an option. I'm 49 and overweight.

So I've started walking to and from work 3-4 days a week - I drop kids off at school and walk to work. Its about 5.2km and takes me 45 minutes.

I LOVE it!! After 3 weeks I'm really feeling the benefits of it. I'm feeling stronger and fitter and healthier and my time has improved by 5 minutes already.

I have a knee and ankle injury so don;t think I could jog, but the walking seems to be improving the strength of these joints rather than aggravating them, which is a pleasant surprise.

Anyone else walking?

I walk to work three days, drive two, and walk back three days drive two. I love my walk there, same as you 45mins, listen to podcasts, sometimes take a travel mug of tea. And yep Ive noticed an improvement on my stamina.

Its like "me time" but productive.

Ill be honest and say Im not a fan of the walk home, as Im usually hungry and tired; but public transport takes just as long so I justify it by telling myself there really is no quicker way.
