Logistics for a big race out of town

I'm booked onto a half marathon for next year. It's about 3 hours away by train.

I'd be going with OH and children (they can sightsee/cheer me on).

How would you plan the trip?

I was thinking: travel on Saturday morning, sightsee on Saturday afternoon, early night at hotel Saturday night. Run on Sunday, travel back on Sunday evening.

Is this doable or would I be beststaying over on Sunday night? Or travelling on Friday afternoon? I don't think I'd be training a day or two before, it's more than I don't want to wear myself out before or underestimate any recovery period I may need.

I've just done my first half marathon and I did what you suggested - travelled down the day before, ran the second morning and then came home in the afternoon. It worked well.

Don't over do it with the sight seeing! Not too much walking about.

You're very organised if you're thinking about this already for next year!!

Thank you! Finding it easier to plan logistics than actually get on with training Wink
