I use Swimio, it's the old Speedo app, it's fab!

Manual too, but great for tracking the distance and it has challenges

Bathtub to 500m is a good place to start

Igottastartthinkingbee · 24/05/2017 07:08

Caterpillar that's great! Definitely make a note of what you've done so you can track your progress. Very satisfying to look back on.

I went swimming yesterday, took the wetsuit to practise in. I was boiling!!! But great to practice in as I barely needed to kick my legs. So now I know that in the pool I can have confidence in the lake. I think I panic kicked my legs in my lake practice the other day (maybe because of the cold?) but now I know I really don't need to might help me relax into the swim.

SingingAvocado · 24/05/2017 12:28

Celebrations are in order Citrus and Caterpillar Flowers!

CountryCaterpillar · 24/05/2017 12:53

I haven't got a strata account
I think I'm probably at the "write it in a little book" stage but maybe in the future....

In other news I did my first exercise prescription session and it nearly killed me. Im going to go 2 x a week but it makes me feel so unfit whereas swimming makes me feel wondeful!!

SkiBike007 · 24/05/2017 18:02

Got an outdoor (lunch break)swim in but alas the lovely warm sunshine meant the pool was busy and the lifeguard stepped in twice to remind people on lane etiquette. I just couldn't get "in the zone" properly and ran out of time at the 30L mark and had to zoom back to work. I'll try go again Friday

SingingAvocado · 25/05/2017 11:57

I love the thought of an outside pool on a day like today ski. Around 24C here. A pity it was overcrowded though. I went early this morning and the (indoor) pool was crowded too. Everyone was inspired to get swimming for some reason! 2k done in 39m today.

sexymuthafunker · 25/05/2017 17:53

Right! Am going to download swimio then & attemp 1k next time am in the pool 😁
Well done citrus and carerpillar !
Loving the sea 🌊 pics!

sexymuthafunker · 25/05/2017 17:55

singingavo that is super fast!

CountryCaterpillar · 25/05/2017 17:56

Did aqua again today. Only had 25mins after and was shattered but still did 24lengths. After I got into it I realised I could have gone longer. I even had a lane to myself for a bit but there was only one lane and 2 fast men came in!!

Still loving the feeling :)

CountryCaterpillar · 25/05/2017 17:57

Singing wow!literally 4x faster than me... Super fast! Well done.

rightsofwomen · 26/05/2017 09:33

singing you are speedy!

Hold on to the feeling caterpillar

So, as some of you know I've had some difficult times recently and my sport has helped me hugely. Unfortunately I've been doing too much and my CK levels are high, indicating muscle damage, and I've been advised to cut down. I need to find more healthy ways to get that feeling of escape and endorphins. Bugger. For now, I am not changing my sport as the other ways I try and get that feeling are even more unhealthy. I'm getting lots of help and support, I just need to take it.

Being an adult sucks at times.

I didn't know you were unwell, that sounds such a difficult position to be in when you know how much exercise helps.

I need to go to the gym (signed the exercise prescription thing saying I'd go twice a week) but don't want to. I want to swim! I think being hot and sweaty swimming appeals more too!! Still it will do me good in a different way to swimming I suppose

SingingAvocado · 26/05/2017 09:41

Sending you lots of hugs Rights. I googled CK levels as I'd not heard that term before. Take it easier and take care of yourself xx

NotCitrus · 26/05/2017 13:52

Good luck Rights.
I have got packing my backpack down to a fine art, all ready to go in advance. Did 1k again today, about 40 min. Might have been faster only the nose clip kept falling off. Finally got it to stay put but one of its pads has broken off.

I did manage to impressively overtake a fit-looking bloke, to his surprise, so that was fun!

Hissy · 26/05/2017 14:00

Rights sending lots of hugs and squeezes! Hope that you can just slow it down a little and take it easy? for a while?

Hard session at masters last night, but I AM getting there. the coach said i 'looked like a swimmer'

meanwhile, my lake swimming on weds pulled a muscle in my chest, right behind my boob... its eased off now, but i'm back in the lake tonight so will see how I get on and take it steady.

6 weeks to henley... am trying not to panic...

SkiBike007 · 26/05/2017 21:37

Sorry to hear your having a tough time rights -
Are you able to walk? I've used simple walking in the past to keep my sanity when health issues have limited me doing other sports, not ideal but improved my mental health.

Good luck empress & shortaris. Hope you find some motivation kanyes I find it too hot to run now unless I can get out very early. Ended up doing a hot sunny 8mile hilly walk today with injured DH, my thighs are a tad achy tonight!

SkiBike007 · 26/05/2017 21:38

Opps sorry second part was a different thread Grin

BestIsWest · 26/05/2017 21:51

Hello all,
I've been doing shorter but quicker swims as I've been pushed for time over the last few weeks. It seems to be paying off as I'm much faster now (I can easily beat Mrs head-up-breast-stroke now). When I first joined these threads she could easily beat me despite me going flat out with fron crawl.

Noticed today a huge rotted patch in my favourite swimsuit. I have a couple of spares but that one was so comfy Sad.

BestIsWest · 26/05/2017 21:52

Rights, sorry Sad

rightsofwomen · 26/05/2017 23:22

Thank you for the kind words and support. ski I am not injured as such, just got blood test results which show I'm over exercising.

For now my need to exercise trumps everything so it is what it is.

1K done in nearly empty pool.

SkiBike007 · 29/05/2017 16:43

Had gd swim with my girls and then DH took youngest out so I got a 1km done in a lane with just my eldest. It's great she's as fast as me now, but it made me smile as a speed guy got in did 3L tried to overtake my DD then got out was puffing lots! She then went onto do 30L Grin girl power at its best when your a mega petite 10yr old! She turned round as said "mummy why did he get out?" I explained why I called them speed jocks.

sexymuthafunker · 29/05/2017 17:58

Swam 500m in 20 mins in outdoor pool today it was so refreshing. Have downloaded swimio - still working towards the 1k - don't think I'd be able to do it in 40 though... how do you pace yourself when you do 1k?

rightsofwomen · 29/05/2017 18:53

sexy you build up from 500m to 1K slowly, keeping the same pace. Maybe if you're utterly done in after 500m, slow that down a bit so you feel like you could carry on. Then add 100m each swim or so?

Love the This Girl Can story!

So I went to the pool, was told it was closed, burst into tears and left.

SkiBike007 · 29/05/2017 20:23

Oh dear rights it's shit when that happens

Our pool is shut tomorrow due to a tri. Hope you can go again soon.

sexymuthafunker · 30/05/2017 08:27

Thanks rights willgive that a go Grin
