What does a Fitbit do that an iPhone doesn't?

Just that really. I'm post CS and looking to get into better shape than I was in pre pregnancy. I've heard of fitbits but am unsure what they can do that the step counting app on my iPhone does. Does anyone have one? Would you recommend? If they're useful, the price isnt really a big issue.

I don't always have my phone on me. My Fitbit one clips to my bra so I always have it on. Haven't used an app so can't say how it compares but you can set challenges and try and get more steps than friends.
Some do heart rate etc.

DH decided his iphone was much better!

The difference for me is that the Fitbit is always on me, but my iPhone isn't. I enjoy the challenges element, but that does depend on knowing people who also use it.

I wear my Fitbit all the time, it's waterproof so for swimming etc too.
Also, do most of my steps at work and I never have my phone on me.
I really like the Fitbit app. I have weekly and weekend step competitions with family it's good for motivation.

My iPhone is always in my bag or in my drawer at work. My Fitbit lives on my wrist. It motivates me to move my ass as it vibrates if I'm sat down too long.

Has a longer-lasting battery? My iphone will only last just over 2 hours on an app like MapMyRun. No good for long walks or bike rides.

I got the Fitbit One because I work in a nursing home and I'm not allowed my phone on me. I got the One because it clips to my trousers, so is easily hidden and probably in the best place for counting steps. I would have like the Charge HR, but I'm not allowed anything on wrists.
My phone never seems accurate anyway, whereas my Fitbit seems more so.

Sorry to butt in. I'm looking at getting my partner a fitbit for father's day he does very little exercise but is trying to motivate himself to do more. Am I best starting out with a basic one...or is a more expensive one better?!
