FitBit Zip - would it be able to count my steps on a cross trainer?

I am trying to do 10,000 steps per day as walking is the only exercise I like. In term time or wet weather I can't always walk outside for long enough to get enough steps. If I bought a cross trainer ( they are surprisingly cheap) would "steps" on that be counted properly by the Fitbit? I usually have the Fitbit in my pocket or clipped to waist band and find it very accurate on normal steps.

Mine doesn't seem to count it as well. I did 20 mins fast on crosstrainer today and I was still at under 2000 steps according to Fitbit. I'm sure it should have been more.

No it won't accurately record them as you're not actually stepping

My Fitbit does record my steps on a cross trainer. It's not the Fitbit zip though, it's a Fitbit One. I use the cross trainer a lot and it definitely counts them - whether it counts them as accurately I can't say, but I've watched the app sometimes as I'm working out and can see them gong up pretty fast!
