If you do weight training do you actually need carbs?

I tend to follow a low carb diet but I find that I feel a bit unwell on very low carbs. I hear all different things about what the truth of this is.

I think it depends what your goals are? DP trains for strength rather than mass or fat loss and he has carbs with protein pre and post workout. You could try it for a while and see what happens?

If you feel unwell when doing weights then its your body telling you something isn't working - what do you eat pre-work out? Maybe a small amount of crabs and protein a few hours before and after a work out may help?

Thanks for your replies. I seem to build muscle mass quite quickly even with moderate resistance. At first I didn't like it but I've decided to go with it as my body just looks different to how it did but not in a bad way I suppose.

I usually don't eat much before a work out because I otherwise feel sick but maybe I need to change what I'm doing.

I think some low carb enthusiasts are a bit over zealous.

Perhaps you could gradually introduce carbs and see how you feel? It can be just a bit of fruit with meals or something.
