Diastasis recti very painful. Has anyone had surgery?

I have very painful diastasis recti and am getting backache now as my tummy muscles are too weak to support my back. They first split 7 years ago when I had my first baby. I have since had another baby who is now 4. I have been to see 2 NHS consultants who have been quite useless. The first one sent me to a physio who taught me some excercises which were quite ineffective. I went back to the doctors who sent me to see another consultant who said he wasn't surprised the excercises didn't work as I did have any muscles to knit together as they had frayed. I asked about the surgery and he was absolutely no use whatsoever saying that he had never heard of it. Has anyone had the surgery and did it help? I can't imagine being in this amount of discomfort for the rest of my life. Thanks

I have had surgery. I had a 4 cm gap and it helped massively. I have abs of steel now.
That said, surgery wasn't a walk in the park. It is a major operation and you can't lift for 6 weeks. I also ended up with a severe heamatoma which set me back a bit.
Would I recommend it tho? Hell yes. I not only feel better about myself I am stronger. I truly believe if I hadn't had it I would have ended up with severe back pain when older due to a lack of core strength
