Anyone doing or done Couch25k on a treadmill?

I started jogging a few weeks back but think I tried to do too much too soon, bearing in mind I haven't exercised in years!

I started getting a bit of pain in my hip which stopped as soon as I stopped running. I do have a joint condition which is under control & my doctor has said it's ok for me to do running & see how I go. He is very supportive of me exercising & increasing my strength & fitness.

My dh suggested starting the Couch25k but on a treadmill rather than outdoors as he said the surface will not be as hard an impact.

Has anyone else done the C25k just on the treadmill? Part of me would be disappointed as I loved the feeling of being outdoors in the fresh air but the most important thing I suppose is to increase my fitness in the safest way.

Does it get a bit boring/demotivating running on a treadmill?

I do mine outside but only because that's easier for me.

I can see how a treadmill would be much better if you have a joint problem.

Tbh, I don't spend a huge amount of time looking at the scenery, I stick my headphones in and focus on getting through to the next bit (and not throwing up, I'm not a natural runner)

Give it a go, find some good music or a podcast to listen to while running, and see how you find it.

I've just done week 5 day 3 and run for 20 mins without stopping (I run 2 podcasts together and do a 5k route so walked for 4 mins then ran again for 10)

I never thought I'd be able to do that when I started, a great sense of achievement.

I did C25K on a treadmill the first time I did it. It's lower impact than going outside, and I did it on the treadmill because I was worried about my knees which were inclined to get sore.

I'm very lucky in that I have a treadmill at home and it's in a room which has a great view, but I still listen to music while I run. Sometimes I set up the laptop in front of it & watch videos, or listen to podcasts.

Yes, it can be a bit boring, but remember each C25K run is only maximum 30 minutes and not too bad being bored for that long! You will probably find your progress quite motivating, as the C25K plan moves you up each level nice & quickly.

After I finished C25K I transitioned to running outside & it was fine. My knees had improved with my fitness, so I thought it would be worth trying a run in the fresh air - it was lovely!

I had a break from running & I'm now getting back into it by doing C25K again - and I'm on the treadmill again for now.

Thanks so much both of you, that's very helpful & encouraging. I'm planning to start tonight when dh gets home.
When you are doing it do you need to listen to the Couch25k podcast or do you have it written down? I'd quite like to listen to music to motivate me more.

I'm planning on this on my treadmill. I'm planning on starting on Monday as I haven't any spare time from now until then. Al;so have to figure out how to download it on my ipod. Can't really use my ipod though. Is it on youtube so i can just do it on my laptop instead?

Well I'm back from first run/walk. It was great! I listened to my music & had the app on too. I actually feel quite good now & I have some energy which I never normally have at this time of day. Just hope I can keep it up.

That's good to hear Jemster, glad it went well Smile

I have the app running with music and strava which counts each k and tells me my times. I find that quite encouraging.

Saying that I'm guessing strava doesn't work on a treadmill as it measures distance with a gps, I guess it doesn't look like you're going anywhere on a treadmill.
