No weightloss and putting in the miles!

I have been running for a couple of years, say 2-3 miles a couple of times a week. I am now training for my first half marathon . So I am up to about 10 miles. I do one long run, a 3 mile and a 5 mile a week. Therefore you would think I would be carrying less weight...,no I have gained! About 10lbsHmm some people say it's muscle and it's heavier. I am sure there is muscle (under the podge)! I don't have a lot to loose, only a stone and that's just because I am vain! Just feels annoying that I haven't benifitted in weight loss whilst putting in all this effort. I find I am sooooo hungry at the moment, but do try to do jacket potatoes etc. please give me some encouragement or wisdom (even if it is to say stop eating piggy)! Grin

?
hi Big:) If you eat more than you burn you won't lose weight no matter how much you run
I'd suggest using myfitnesspal to log all your calories, that way you'll be able to fine tune your food intake.
As a very rough guide running burn in the region of 100 calories per mile ?

To be fair some of the extra weight would be muscle and extra glycogen storage, do you feel as if you have gained fat?

DontKillMyVibe · 17/02/2015 09:21

Do your clothes feel looser or is it just the scales saying you've gained weight?

26Point2Miles · 17/02/2015 09:36

I use mfp too. I'm also marathon training. It's weird what it does to your body, but I'm losing weight v v slowly

I found the same when I trained for a half marathon last year. The only thing that has worked for me has been MFP in conjunction with exercise. I was eating more than I realised, especially as all that running and fresh air made me do damn hungry! I heard Jillian Michaels say that the muscle thing is a bit of a myth. Even bodybuilder a only reckon to put on a couple of lbs of muscle in the run up to a competition - not sure how true this is! I did feel better/fitter and more toned though in spite of what the scales said - how do you feel?

bigbutsrus1 · 17/02/2015 18:04

I feel more toned but my trousers feel tight round my bum! I did try mfp but hate all the faffing around! May give it another go. I am planning on doing Kettlebells again. I really think it's my head telling me it's ok to dunk 6 choc biscuits in my tea!! I am 5ft 10 and weigh 10, 11. Just want to shift the 11lb, and keep running as I have actually found exercise I enjoy!! Grin

I'm sure a more robust derriere is an advantage for running, helps to absorb the impact :o
