If you swim for fitness- how often do you go?

I normally run but have been getting some knee pain and creaking in the joint.

To give my knees a rest im considering swimming-

Would 30 mins just 3x per week be a reasonable amount- I have never swam for fitness before, just larked about with the kids so not even sure if its as good as running- but I have to keep doing something.

If you do interval swimming it should be.

There are "swim4fitness" leaflets all over my gym poolside with info on training regimes (like C25k for swimmers). I think it is sponsored by a swimming kit brand. I'll google.

www.swim4fitness.com

Is by Zoggs, the goggles/trunks people. Seems to be an adjustable training plan for all levels of swimmer.

(I am not affiliated, btw. 'Tis me, NDP)

going to start on Monday on my way into work. Pool opens at 6.30- will do 30 mins and still be in work before 8am so its perfect.

I used to swim 30 minutes three or four times a week and used to feel very fit. It was non-stop crawl and breast stroke at a fairly decent pace.

Just started back into it...

TalkinPeace · 13/09/2014 22:26

I do a mile of breast stroke 4 or 5 times a week

nevergoogle · 13/09/2014 22:42

4 or 5 times a week for 30-60 minutes depending on how long the baby sleeps for. I'm on weight loss though, so once at target weight will probably do 3 times a week for 30 minutes I expect.

nevergoogle have you found it to help with your weight loss attempt? I am trying to shift about 10 stubborn lbs.

I try and eat healthy but find I have a terrible affliction for chocolate!

Tiredemma · 14/09/2014 18:34

I took up swimming today.

I managed around 45 mins, with little rests in between lengths. I was planning on going once a week, too busy to do more - but is that enough??
