After a long period of not doing any exercise I want to get fit again. I have bought myself a cross trainer to use at home. Can anyone offer any advice on how many times a week I should be exercising / for how long / warming up & cooling down routines?

Warm up for 10 mins, at level 7-8, enough to get your heart rate going.

Trying to remember what gym instructor said but I would train for intervals, ie 5 mins high resistance, 5 mins low and work at the highest resistance you can bear for a total of 30 minutes.

Cool down gradually from your highest resistance point for 10 minutes.

Finish off with some core exercises, a plank is a good one(google for instructions!), start with 20 seconds each side build up to 60 seconds.

I'm no instructor though so hopefully someone with more knowledge will come along!

3-4 times a week to see and feel any benefit!
