I havent been on a bike since i was a kid. Im very overweight but determined to lose it. I have been doing yoga and have joined the gym but my other half has a bike and i thought it could be a fun thing to do together.

Im a bit worried that im too fat to cycle and its gonna really hurt my ass. Does anybody have any beginner cycling tips?

Hi, may be worth having a look at
www.goskyride.com/Breeze/Index
To see if there's a ride near you. You'll get plenty of encouragement!

There's special seats you can get star that are much more comftable on the ass

That seat will be very uncomfortable especially on the 'flu' (this is what my road biker friends call it)

You can buy some with gel padding that's much more comfy

We bought that bike for DSD a few weeks ago and she said the seat is really uncomfortable so a gel cover or some cycling shorts with padding will probably do you good.

I got a new bike recently too and I love it, even if I can't go very far on it yet! Happy biking Grin

Try it out, you may be OK. If not, aldi do gel seat covers for £3.99.
Check your local council, in our area they do free instructor led rides, bike ability courses and simple maintenance courses.
Bike set up is important, you need to make sure your seat is high enough (slight bend in knee at bottom of pedal stroke) so you are able to use your leg muscles effectively.
Skyrides and breeze rides (ladies only) are also great

I really wish i lived in an area that there was services of any sort but theres nthing here. The closest bike run group is 90 mins away. Anyway bike should be here next week so cant wait to try it out
