Is now the wrong time of year to take up running?

Just wondering as I plan to start C25K but two things are putting me off:

a) the heat and
b) the fact that it's light and people will see stopping/starting and generally not having a clue.

I'm not completely unfit - I go for a brisk hour walk most days which equates to just over 5k... but should I hold out to the cooler/darker autumn months to build it up to a run?

It's never the wrong time of year to get fit! It's easier to make excuses when it's dark/wet etc. Whenever you stop for a break, no one knows how long / short you've been running for and tbh no one really cares! Go for it and enjoy being more active!

Now's a great time of year to do it. Just ignore other people, who generally won't be looking at you anyway or, if you are concerned, find routes off the beaten track.

People don't really bother I found

If you go early morning/ late eve then it's not too hot

Do it do it!! I've been running since march, and just tatted c25k in this heat. Take some water if you need to and fuck what anyone thinks! You're doing this for you and no one else, come over to the runners thread x

Now's great. It's light in the mornings/evenings when you might have more time. The heat's not a problem once you get fit, as long as you have enough to drink. You get sweaty and the sweat does exactly the job it's supposed to and cools you down. (You will learn to enjoy being sweaty!) Loads of 5 & 10k events in the summer for you to have as a goal.

Thanks all! Think I'll get on with it. I don't really want to wait, just hope I don't expire in the heat! Time to purchase a sports bra and suitable running trousers...

Perfect time to start gently "because of the heat". Don't suppose it will last long anyway. Good luck and keep us posted!
