I finally went for a run!

That's it really. After months of not having time and making excuses on the few occasions I did, tonight I made a decision to just go and fucking do it. And I did. I'm so pleased with myself.
I've got a lot of adrenaline running through me this last week (at times I've struggled not to run full pelt out the door and not look back) and it's done me so much good, I feel calmer and relaxed and determined to keep up.
It was only a really short run and I struggled a lot but I don't care.
Sorry for the blatant boast but I had to share and am hoping for a few tips/words of encouragement. I will have a look at some of the ongoing threads tomorrow but for now- when and where do you run? I've always preferred to run at night but theres nowhere that really feels safe round here. I have asked dp to come with me before but I know he won't stick to it. Any advice? Tia

Congrats! I am many years behind schedule but this might be the nudge I need. Keep on running!

Firstly fab effort. We'll done. I should have gone running too as I'm definitely overdue.

I live night running. I really dislike running in sunshine as I get so hot. Night running with a bit of drizzle is perfect aka "darkrun" in our house.

When I'm out after dark I stick to well populated road routes. So, lots of houses and cars driving past. I usually also try to be back before 10pm. These summer nights are going to be a pain as it's lighter for a lot longer.

Well done :)

I will run tomorrow - honest.

First of all well done. I usually run along the streets or on MOD land, during the day. If you want to run at night I would wear a hi viz vest just to be safe. Good luck and enjoy.

well done! it's so addictive, you will look back very very very soon and marvel at how far you can run with relative ease, it builds so quickly

I am incredibly scared of traffic (which is stupid because there isn't any here really) so I tend to run round private fields or on footpaths and bridleways unless am with a friend or the running club, am still worried about cars but they feel less menacing when I'm with others Blush

Thank you for the congrats, that is just what I needed. I will get funny look off dp when I tell him and rightly or wrongly I just needed a "Well Done!" off someone. Thank you all.
It is populated roads that I'm terrifed of, the thought of lots of people seeing me huffing and puffing puts me off. Part of the reason I prefer the night. I love that 5ofus and those conditions sound perfect, it's quite humid and clammy here tonight which didn't help me catch my breath.

Funnily that might also be another reason why I prefer the night! Fewer people around that I know! But I get spooked easily so need a well populated area just in case...

There is a canal right by me which I used as a fearless/stupid teen but I'm a bit more mature now (hopefully!).
I will try and just get my fitness levels up slightly and then attempt a morning run.

Well done weasel. I run in the mornings after school run and in mornings at weekend. Live in quite a small town so the paths are quite quiet, and just don't think about the cars going by!

CMOTDibbler · 30/04/2014 07:39

Well done! I run on pavements, and as its a very small town people often tell me they've seen me, and are only ever positive even when I think I looked slow/beetroot/awful at the time. Now, when I see new runners out, I always think 'good on you for getting out', so don't worry about people seeing you

You ALWAYS feel better after a run.
Running is SO good for your mental health.
