Why do some women let their boobs bounce around?

I have just been to the gym.

I was running on the treadmill and the woman (about 30) diagonally in front of me was running too. I was fixated on her boobs which were thudding up and down for 30 minutes. I could see by her bra straps that she had an everyday bra on.

Is this not extremely uncomfortable? I see it a lot.

I can't bear even a hint of boob movement when I run. (I am also very proud of my perky breasts, running unsupported must be asking for them to end up at your navel.)

Many years ago when I was youthful I went for a jog in a normal bra. The double takes from the car drivers shocked me into never, ever repeating the same mistake. I wear 2 sports bras now if I do any kind of high impact exercise in public.

goodasitgets · 19/04/2014 17:26

Depends on boob size. I'm a 34JJ and limited to a choice of two sports bras - neither of which are great. The other option I have yet to try is a £45 one
I get self conscious about it but there's not much I can do!

melliebobs · 19/04/2014 17:27

Maybe it doesn't bother her?

Maybe it's lack of awareness of the benefits of a bloody good sports bra?

Maybe she hadn't had chance to buy one and it's on her to do list?

Maybe she forgot her sports bra and rather than sack off the gym she carried on anyway?

Either way, so what Hmm

MrsBennetsEldest · 19/04/2014 17:34

Are we to be judged on breast movement now. Mine bounce in a sports bra.Tis Bouncy stuff silicone.Grin

Blueuggboots · 19/04/2014 17:38

I am not an exerciser but I know about how saggy your boobs will end up if you don't wear good supportive underwear, so how on earth does a woman who actually likes to run when not bring chased by a knife wielding maniac not know about sports bras???

ShatnersBassioonOfChrist · 19/04/2014 17:41

Breasts bounce, and if it isn't uncomfortable then no need to police them. Stop looking, problem solved.

ParkingFred · 19/04/2014 17:49

But it must be uncomfortable!

Poor boobs, held up by a mere cobweb of muscle (or something) - they need a bit of help in some situations. No-one wants to expedite sagginess, surely?

It's boring at the gym, I need something to fixate on.

Mine bounce up and down even with a sports bra on. Although I assume people at the gym are concentrating on their own exercise rather than spending their time staring at my tits. Obviously an incorrect assumption.

Meglet · 19/04/2014 17:57

I'm fascinated by women who wear normal bras to the gym. I can't imagine how uncomfortable it must be to work out in a padded, underwired bra Confused.

Even my ballerina boobs need securing in a sports bra before I work out.

Burmahere · 19/04/2014 17:59

It must be hideous - I have small boobs but see woman like this and am also perplexed as to why they don't wear a decent sports bra, I know they are expensive but surely a good investment?

Grennie · 19/04/2014 18:01

I have big breasts. I have always found sports bras so uncomfortable that I exercise in a normal bra.

And mine bounce in a sports bra too, unless it is a very very tight one which feels so bloody uncomfortable that I don't want to do any exercise at all.

Grennie · 19/04/2014 18:02

It is a myth that bras stop you being saggy. Actually at least when you are young, women who don't wear bras have less saggy breasts.

I remember the joy in getting my new sports bra and discovering that my 30Fs didn't move a millimetre when I jumped up and down.

If only there was something similar for my stomach :(

CMOTDibbler · 19/04/2014 18:06

Its the thought of the chafing in a normal bra that horrifies me.

A well fitted sports bra is a wonderful thing - I am currently sporting my new one, acquired in Bravissimo yesterday - which is comfy, zero bounce, and in the cycling jersey I was wearing today gives an amazing 50's bust line

Standinginline · 19/04/2014 18:06

Oh what I'd give to have that problem ,lol ,unfortunately I could probably getting away with wearing a normal bra whilst exercising and still having no movement !!

Grennie · 19/04/2014 18:06

Why would you get chafing??

Sizzlesthedog · 19/04/2014 18:09

Mine move in a figure if eight movement when I run. With a normal support bra and a high impact sports bra on top.

I worry about running and being seen with bouncing boobs, at least I know I will be judged on it too.

goodasitgets · 19/04/2014 18:10

I guess it's fit too - how many people are wearing the wrong size so they would bounce still

CMOTDibbler · 19/04/2014 18:26

If you are bouncing, then tissue is going to be rubbing against clothing. If you watch men at a half marathon or marathon you see blokes with bleeding nipples from it

EauRouge · 19/04/2014 20:13

Exactly, goodasitgets, even the best sports bra will do nothing to prevent bounce if it's the wrong size.

Mitchy1nge · 19/04/2014 23:21

chafing can be horrific, have an actual SCAR on my back from a sports bra that had gone slightly baggy, where it does up at the top between the shoulder blades - if you run for two or three hours with something rubbing like that it's shocking just how bad the chafing can be!

and I used to laugh at the bleeding nipples of men but that taught me

cinnamongreyhound · 20/04/2014 21:23

I don't wear a sports bra and have no chaffing or discomfort when I run. Have no idea how much my boobs move as I really don't look at them but perhaps I'll Pay more attention!
