Ooh and I looked at the parkrun website last night and it looks good - there are quite a few venues near me so I'm thinking about aiming to do one in a month's time .....

MooseyMouse · 21/06/2014 14:24

Hey MrsM did you do your first run today?

W4r1 here. It's weird how what was hard last week (3mins) magically becomes easier. 5mins was bloody tough though!

stilllearnin · 21/06/2014 14:29

Thank you for your birthday greetings! As predicted I did not manage the run this am - but did the shred instead (only level 1!). We did the colour run and had a great time. Dd kept going even if not running...and it was hot!

Moosey - 5 mins feels like proper progress though eh?

KiteyDelighty · 21/06/2014 15:47

w7r1 of my 8 week c25k programme done. I still hate running but love feeling virtuous afterwards and generally fitter and possibly more toned. I need to lose 3 stone and I think I have to face the fact that I need to go back to myfitnesspal and sort my portion sizes etc to have any real effect on my weight.
I wear running tights and look revolting and bright Angry in this weather but at least I am trying. Plenty of runners on my usual routes and they aren't all lithe lean gazelles.

Does anyone else feel twitchy on non-running days? I promised myself I would do the Shred on running rest days but I haven't always managed it.

DottyDot · 21/06/2014 15:53

I need to lose 3 stone and yes I feel twitchy on rest days - but I still have newbie enthusiasm..! I'm planning to Shred on rest days but it's still in the planning stage at the moment Grin

spookyskeleton · 21/06/2014 18:00

Evening everyone Smile

Well done on those who have done runs today. still 2 of my friends did a colour run this morning, wonder if it was the same as yours? Just been looking at the photos on FB and it looks so much fun Grin

Well have stretched myself too much today I think Sad went to volunteer on the new programme this morning so W1R1 then did 6k run afterwards. I think I probably did at least 8k altogether and even though the majority of the first 30 minutes was walking, it obviously fatigued my legs as my run was difficult...but I did it Grin

I have then spent all afternoon watching DS1 in a football tournament so have barely sat down for over 4 hours and my legs are aching and my ankles are hurting!!

Was planning a gym class tomorrow morning but will see how I feel as I want to be fit to do W2R1 of the bridge to 10k (which involves 3 x 15 minute runs with 1 minute walking in between) on Monday morning.

Have a good evening - am about to crack open the beer Grin

MooseyMouse · 21/06/2014 18:45

stilllearnin Yes, five minutes feels amazing. I simply cannot believe this plan is working. It's great to think I'm getting healthier.

PlushSuppie · 21/06/2014 18:49

Hi all, can I join in.
I did week 1 mon, tues & weds as those are generally the only days I can run.
Week 2 I did mon, tues & weds and then managed week 3 on the Thursday.
On week 3 the download had disappeared so I did week 4 on the Monday the next day week 4 had disappeared so I ended up doing week 5 Tuesday and Wednesday!!
So I've done 2 week 5 runs in week 3!
I do go the gym a bit but really ached after my first run so harder than anything I do at the gym.
I need to try and complete it before the school holidays as I'll struggle then.

Inkspellme · 21/06/2014 22:01

well I did w3 r3 this evening. R2 I did at half six yesterday morning so while I haven't left a rest day I didn't do r3 til 7 this evening so it feels like I have had a rest day!

monday morning and week 4 begins! Def nervous but then I said that about week 3....

DottyDot · 21/06/2014 22:05

spooky you are crazy Grin
inkspell well done! Am right behind you - going to do W3R3 tomorrow afternoon - I know what you mean about being nervous about week 4 but knowing we felt exactly the same a few days ago about W3 and it's been all good so far
Plush hi there!

Am getting slightly nervous now I've found this thread that it's going to be full very soon - someone will start a new one won't they?

And WHY can't I do the Shred?? Tried tonight but find it utterly exhausting and can only get through the first 2 rotations of level 1. I'm not built for jumping jacks...!

Whatsthatnoise · 21/06/2014 22:51

dotty I quite enjoy the shred except the fake skipping ow ow ow. I tried Jillian Michaels banish fat boost metabolism I actually thought I was going to die. the shred is a walk in the park comparatively Grin

DottyDot · 21/06/2014 23:01

Nooooo! Nothing can be harder than the Shred... And yes to multiple owwwws for the skipping - it's IMPOSSIBLE...

stilllearnin · 21/06/2014 23:46

spooky - i imagine it was the same run - i live off the M1! It was hot tho and no shade- also we ran laps round a field so was like school cross country (which I loved!)

ChameleonCircuit · 22/06/2014 07:21

Oh crikey. I've actually got up at 7am on a Sunday to run before it gets too hot. I think I've been possessed by aliens!

W2R3 here I come! Shock

Inkspellme · 22/06/2014 08:28

I know! I couldn't believe it when I actually enjoyed getting up at 6.30 for a run. Also feeling vaguely disapointed that I went for a run last night so shouldn't be doing one this morning. Everyone is right. running is addictive!

VeryThelma · 22/06/2014 10:57

Ok I'm in need to sort myself out - which app is the best to get me started please knowledgeable ones (from an exercising virgin) thanks

Whatsthatnoise · 22/06/2014 11:25

W3R2 done!! had to take dd with me on her bike it was a nightmare Angry only 2 weeks till the summer holidays and then I've no idea how I'm going to fit in running, today proved I can't drag her with me Sad Sad Sad

Inkspellme · 22/06/2014 11:47

verythelma - I use the zenlabs c25k ap and find it great. I use my own music in the background so it suits me. I have seen lots if people say the nhs downloadable broadcasts are excellent.

whatsthatnoise - maybe a run in local park would work? She could play in playground whilst you do laps of it so you can keep an eye on her?

Whatsthatnoise · 22/06/2014 13:45

I might try that ink I can prob fit in twice a week during the hols or push myself to run at 10pm when I finish work. dd has a disability and I totally underestimated her ability today feeling a bit guilty cause I pushed her too far Sad

Inkspellme · 22/06/2014 14:36

Ah don't feel guilty - you didn't do it on purpose after all and unless you did lasting damage you can both chalk it up to experience. We all do things with our kids which we realise afterwards weren't the ideal choice.

ChameleonCircuit · 22/06/2014 15:33

Wow! I did W2R3 this morning and I've been like the Duracell bunny ever since! Grin

One question for the ol' pros, if possible - the first couple of 90 second runs, I'm gasping and really struggle to get my breath back, but for the other four, I'm managing ok. We even did an extra 90 second burst after she'd said to cool down. So how come I'm in such trouble to start with, but doing ok in the latter part? Is there an obvious reason or am I just weird?

spookyskeleton · 22/06/2014 15:35

chameleon I don't know but my running friends always say the first 10 minutes of a run are hell and then it improves although I generally struggle with my breathing most of the time I am running!

My ankles are hurting today Sad hope they improve by tomorrow!

Whatsthatnoise · 22/06/2014 15:54

I bought her a new skirt at asda to make up for it Grin she's away out with her favourite aunt and I am self medicating with wine.
I always find the second half of a run easier too think it's a pace thing and possibly the incline of the path Smile

DottyDot · 22/06/2014 17:22

Woo! W3R3 done Grin and unlike last week, I feel ready for week 4 - which has probably doomed it - but roll on Tuesday, I can do it...

I also did an extra couple of short runs at the end of the session today, because it's only about 23 minutes so I did 2 more x 2 minutes with walking in between to get to 30 mins - I'm also much better towards the end of a session than at the beginning - completely psychological for me I think!

High point of the day - struggling getting back into smaller jeans I haven't worn for almost 2 years (I have a wide variety of sizes in the wardrobe Grin). Low point - discovering chocolate covered ricecakes are 84 calories! I was assuming they were way less than that and ate 4 yesterday.... Ahem. Blush

Ah well - hopefully have run them off today Smile

rockybalboa · 22/06/2014 20:29

Hello!! waves I've just finished Week 2. Really hard one tonight after too much wine last night! It's funny how each run varies so much within the week depending how I'm feeling. I'm not looking forward to Week 3, the prospect of running for 3 whole minutes is alarming me! However I must lose this baby weight and I'm hoping this will help.
