Does anyone know of a 10k running event?

A bit of a long shot, but does anyone know of a 10k running event, preferably in the midlands, that is specifically aimed at fund-raising for cancer (the whole event) and open to all?

Hmm, lots of Races for Life 10Ks (e.g. Sutton Coldfield, 7 June) but of course only open to women.

Thanks for the replies :) The race for life isn't open to all, and whilst my running partner can enter I can't. I've been looking, and will keep doing so, but haven't been able to find anything yet. Unfortunately, race for life seems to have it pretty much sewn up.

The Jane Tomlinson race for all events are for everyone and although you can fundraise for whatever charity you want, I think the Jane Tomlinson appeal is focused on cancer. There are ones in Leeds, York, Hull and somewhere the other side of the Pennines I think (all 10k events)

Ooh, thank you! MirandaWest, the Jane Tomlinson event looks ideal as we're in the East Midlands so would be easy to get to (just up the M1 really).

We've both lost people who were close to us to cancer, so a specific event (where everyone is taking part for a common cause, if that makes sense) would be very appealing, but a generic one would work too. I guess we can just pick a charity using Just Giving? I spoke to my friend yesterday and she suggested Marie Curie.

Now all I need to do is keep up with the training

I did the York one last year and definately doing it again this year. Really really enjoyable experience.

How about the BUPA Manchester 10K on the 18th of May?? Men, women, walkers/runner all shapes & sizes & you can raise money for any cancer charity.

Its a FAB day.

If you google running diary many events are listed on there. You can sign up with notifications of races within a certain radius from ur postcode

Rothley 10k may be good if you are East Midlands, it's 17 June this year and a Tuesday evening race. It is a charity event and whilst not specifically for cancer research, the race website does allow you to create your own fundraising page.

why don't you set up your own event? Are you in a running club? They could help you. People set up memorial races all the time, it's a lot of work but it's something you can do if you want to badly enough.

Thanks for the great suggestions :) I'm not in a running club and I think setting up a run by myself might be a bit too much, at least this year. I was looking for a 10k, but my friend who may be running with me has said she'd prefer a 5k. I think she is probably a lot fitter than I am and we have several months to train, and I think a 10k would be a big confidence boost for her, but I can't push her into something she isn't comfortable with. Fortunately, there's still plenty of time to register for most events and raise some sponsorship.

The BUPA one offers both so might be a good choice, though personally I really do like the look of the Jane Tomlinson one. I've also found a 5k in Derby at around the same time. It is a full 5k course, but billed as a 'fun run' type event. I think there's a good possibility I could end up doing it on my own in any case, and although I've been training quite hard I'm not at all confident (and don't tend to like doing things like this by myself) so the atmosphere might make it a lot easier for me to cope with :) Also I have some friends in Derby who may well turn out to lend some support if they're around on the day.
