return to running and back pain

I used to run a lot. My exercise of choice. But due to children took a break. I suffer sciatica like pain now and then bouts last a while then go. Went for nice run the other day enjoyed it but after I've really suffered with bad back. And actually it's happened after work out DVD's too so should I do some low impact exercise like swimming instead or will this get better as I get fitter? It's hard to keep at training wen each session floors me for a few days!

Have you tried pilates, it's v good for strengthening glutes and core?

Did you have your running style assessed when you bought your running shoes? If you're in the wrong shoes that might be the problem.

Haha you are assuming I even have running shoes!

I have a pair of trainers that I have worn once to do an exercise class a year ago.

I'm not v fit, only do yoga, pilates and swimming due to chronic back issues but would like to try running, partly to see if I could do it and was inspired by a thread about running music earlier today.

Feel like my bust is an impediment so wondered if anyone was in a similar position...

If you have back problems it's even more important to get properly fitted with shoes. If you're well endowed you'll also need a good sports bra. Bravissimo and places like that sell sports bras for the large of chest.
