Aching lower back after jogging - normal?

I have just started on the c25k training and Im half way through week 2, so I am pretty new to all this.

When I am jogging, my lower back/pelvis seems to be taking a lot of impact and it is the only bit of me that is really aching the next day (and while I'm jogging).

Is this normal, or is it due to my style of jogging? Or my trainers? They are not proper running shoes, I thought I should see if I could stick to it before I buy expensive shoes...

Thanks!

I have a sightly dodgy lower back and if I run without also doing core strengthening exercises, I get a strange ache at the base of my spine. The way I would describe it is a warning signal ache, feeling as though I'm doing myself no good at all! I've found that doing abdominal and back strengthening exercises as well as the running completely stops the ache - presumably because strengthening those muscles means my back is better supported and more supple. Maybe do a couple of core strengthening classes at a local gym or leisure centre so you can get some advice on how to strengthen your core muscles and see if that helps?

Oh, also get some proper running trainers. You don't need to spend a lot and they make a huge difference because of the cushioning :)
