Running - please help I'm a total beginner

I want to start running to get fit, loose baby weight and tone up.
I'm off to get some trainers today and I'm planning to go for a run/jog at 5.30am before children and husband get up.
However, I'm a total beginner, does anyone have any tips/advice?
Has anyone got any success stories, where you have started as a beginner like myself?
Thanks

google Couch to 5k-

there is also a thread on here for it

Def download the couch to 5k plan from the NHS website. I hated running, had never been good at it etc. Did C25K earlier this year, then a 10k race, then did a half marathon 2 weeks ago!

Def c25k or some other interval running. I started run 1 minute walk 1 minute for half an hour. I can now run for 45 minutes. The key is do it at your own pace, increase when you feel ready and set very small goals for yourself. Good luck

Thanks everyone :)
I downloaded the c25k and it was my first morning this morning, I was up at 5.30 and ready to go. But I could only manage 20mins (using the podcast) going again on Wednesday morning.
I found it a bit boring though :( hope the more I do it the more I will enjoy it :)
CMOTDibbler that's great well done!
