I have ran twice this week just under 2miles with a days rest. I ran most of it and did a brisk walk in between as had a stitch :-/ .my knee s have been aching and felt a bit clicky ever since. I really struggle when I've been siting down and have to get up. I think I may have overdone it as I've never ran before. I am starting the coach to 5k on Monday to build myself up instead of going full force. Is it normal to ache this badly and does it get easier???

I'm not sure as the only time I tried running I was unable to breathe after about 50 yards Sad

My legs were fine.

Poor you.

It's not normal to ache for days, it's sounds like you overdid it a bit. Couch to 5k will ease you in gently, you still get a bit achey at times but not enough to want to give in. Have you got decent running shoes?

You should expect a little stiffness for the first few days, but not pain.

It is very important to build up slowly - even if you are reasonably fit, so feel able to run more. Following the C25K is an excellent plan.

NotInTheMood, congratulations on making a start! But as others have said, it's really important to commence gradually and build up.

[whispers] another tip is to take an Ibuprofen tablet beforehand, not so much for the pain relief, but to prevent inflammation. With food, and not if your stomach doesn't like Ibuprofen, obviously.

NOOO! Lady. Pain is there for a reason, please don't recommend masking it, not to a beginner. I know it's used by lots of serious experienced runners and it (maybe) has a place for them, but really not for OP.

Ok I will definitely ease myself into it next week with couch to 5k. Ok does anyone else do any exercise in between. I was thinking of going swimming once a week. Just to work all some of my other areas and fitness only a gentle swimming though and then running 3 times a week. I really have no idea what is wrong with me wanting to do all this exercise !!!!

I have some nice Nike trainers but not expensive runner shoes.

It takes longer for your skeleton/muscles/tendon to get used to running than for your cardiovascular system, so that's why you need to build up slowly. 2 miles from nothing is too much, IMO. Couch to 5k is a really good idea.

Swimming as well is another really good idea!

Taking anti-flammatories like ibuprofen before training is actually a bad idea.
