100 Miles by Halloween (Run/Walk/Cycle/Hop etc.)

NB: suspect this should rightly be in a fitness topic but wanted folk to see it - happy to ask MNHQ to change it if need be.

Would anyone like to join me in a fitness challenge to do 100 miles by Halloween, of your chosen sport?

I have just started running and want a challenge that's doable but challenging for me. I can currently do 2 miles on a good day, but to do 100 miles would need to sustain this (and improve) over the next 10 weeks.

So I wondered if there was anyone out there who is improving their fitness and starting out cycling or jogging or hiking (or even swimming!) and wants to hang out here?

I'm guessing this is more appealing for novices like me but heck, anyone's welcome.

I'm not using a pedometer because they're not too accurate for runners apparently, but using websites that enable you to track your route and work out distance travelled. I'll find some links if anyone's interested.

If so: my name is RunFatGirlFun, I'm overweight and unfit and getting old, and today I ran 1.5 miles, and I have 98.5 miles to go!

I did myself a disservice last time. I was actually 12 miles down 88 to go.

Five miles today!! So chuffed.

So 17 miles down 83 to go

I'm only counting running (though this may change :))
4.4 mile run on Sunday, 8.3 in total, 91.7 to go.

Need to be running at least three times a week before GNR in less than 3 weeks

I had to revise my target downward because breaking a toe left me largely inactive and any walk over about ten minutes is knackering atm. I'm aiming to increase stamina so I can easily do an hour non stop, which at the speed I walk is just over four miles. When I can do that every day I'll raise my target again, and continue to try to increase stamina till I can do ten miles at a go. That might take a few months.

OP, don't worry about a blow out, we all deserve one sometimes. You've started something good.

Welcome Dolphin, you can do it, we have your back.

Well done KD! Impressive.

Yes feet, you need to think about upping the distance too, just a little. You have three weeks left to prepare, that's long enough, you're already doing nearly 5 miles. You can do it too. We all can.

Ouch to broken toe Nicholas.
Thanks for concern about distance - I have been increasing the mileage gradually, it just hasn't shown up here yet! I'm up to 6-7 mile runs, just not the 9-10 milers I should be doing. As I only have 3 weeks I am concentrating on speed work, with a few longer runs thrown in, and hoping the distance is in my legs on the day - bloody-mindedness should get me through plus the knowledge that I have run that distance once before (but only once!)

Revision of total I posted yesterday - 8.6 miles (miscalculated route)

4.7 miles this morning
13.3 miles total
86.7 to go

Is it a half marathon you're doing feet ?
I did a half marathon about five years ago. Not run at all in four years.

I did manage to run the full twelve point whatever miles about a fortnight before the event. But I agree it's mental attitude which will get you over the line. I almost have up at the twelve mile mark (yes really!!) but luckily a wonderful man who just happened to be running beside me made me run the rest.

Hope the toe recovers quickly nicholas. Ouch.

Inspired by this thread I'm off to walk to a supermarket which I think is about a mile away...

Yes, KD0706, I'm doing Great North Run on 15th September.

I did Silverstone Half Marathon last year so I know I can get round, just haven't had the best training this time.
I'm pretty sure the other 54,999 other runners, a bumbag full of Jelly Babies and the fact that I'm raising money for Winston's Wish will get me through the tough bits though :)

A little over three miles this morning and a little under three miles this afternoon. So I'll call that six miles.

I am pleased. But absolutely exhausted. My legs hurt! I guess that must mean I'm doing something right.

23 miles down 77 to go

I'm off to have a bath and then bed as I'm so knackered from my walking!!!

Walked a couple of miles with the DDs today (well, they rode in the wagon for part of it). 89 miles to go!

I'm on annual leave this week so I have been able to add to my total. I went on a lovely walk with my husband on Sunday evening. (5 miles)

Went on a quick bike ride on Monday (2 miles but I'm not counting bike riding cause I don't really push myself)

Finally prized my 13 year old daughter away from the computer and indulged in a bit of mother daughter bonding on a 4 mile walk which included a trip to buy cheese in ASDA followed by a stroll by our local river.

87 miles to go

Hi everyone - just swinging by to say that I've not abandoned my target but I won't be around for a bit. I'm travelling around a little partly because my dear Granny is gravely ill so we are getting to see her, and partly because I then have to be away from home for meetings etc. I'm keeping up swimming but finding it hard to fit running in - hopefully by this weekend things will have settled down a bit and I can tick off those miles.

Good luck Centurions and welcome new ones!

Thinking of you run and hope your gran gets well soon.

I didn't do much today and didn't switch my app on so I have no idea how little I covered. Ah well, I might try to go out this evening and do a mile... Depends if it starts raining again.

Did my one mile. With 18 month old in sling. Little monkey wouldn't go to sleep tonight.

She fell asleep in the sling and then blinking endomodo app thing announces loudly "one mile in xyz minutes". Bloody thing.

Anyway, that's me with 76 miles to go

6 and a bit K this morning, some of it walking because I got an awful stitch. I ran as stress relief, but I'm so stressed my shoulders are up by my ears which doesn't make for comfortable running. Might have to try wine instead Grin

Anyway, 85 miles to go.

This is fab, thanks for starting the thread RunFatGirlRun.

You're really getting there feet I bet you'll smash your run.

Well done to everybody. I think this thread is being really inspiring to lots of us - I will stop being so soppy now though!!

I'm back on form today. Four miles this morning and 2.5 this afternoon.

I also weighed myself last night and I've lost weight (have been trying - ish for a while) so I'm feeling even more determined.
