Recommendations for gadget which shows how far I have run?

Any affordable suggestions? Don't mind simple or second hand, just want to record how far I run and how fast. If it does other stuff as well that's great but not priority. Smile

Runkeeper app is good. Saw it recommended on here and have been very pleased with it, does distance, pace, elevation, plots your routes etc. Free too.

Does that mean I have to have an I-phone? or can I use it on my computer? I am very gadget phobic- hence needs to be simple!!

Hi Yellow I'm looking for the same thing as I don't have an iPhone and have been looking at GPS watches which track distance/time/cals. There are quite a few about, I'm looking at the Garmin Forerunner range as the data can also be downloaded onto your PC.

Arghhh! Sorry! The Garmin forerunner GPS and heart monitor thingy is supposed to be v good and easy to use? Quite pricey but they do have them on eBay? Not sure what there is apart from that....sorry, I'm useless!

Polar rc3 GPS . best tool for fitness in my extensive kit. Comes with HRM chest band. Very accurate and inspiring

I've just got a Garmin Forerunner 10 - £90 from John Lewis, and it is very easy to use and to upload the data to your Garmin account.
I like seeing how my pace is going, and the split times which is helping as I'm trying to go faster and further.

I use the endomondo app on my android phone. There is a free version but if you pay (69p) you can upgrade and get more functions - it does different training runs for example. I can chose to pay for a further upgrade which would get me lots of stats sort of info.

My friends with iphones all use the runkeeper app, which they all seem to love,

I'm a "runner" (2 x 10ks & training for a half m) and I recently treated myself to a Garmin watch. Cheapest on the market for about £90 but I got it in Tesco with £10 off. Its BRILL! very easy to use, GPS takes second to pick a signal, press start & you're off. Really does spur me on.

Its the Garmin Forerunner 10. You can get them on Ebay 2nd hand but TBH the price you can pay sometimes is greater than a brand new one.

Otherwise it's the really old-fashioned approach:

watch
OS map
notebook

I've just got a Garmin Forerunner 10, I haven't had a chance to use it yet but I've had a play around and it's very easy to figure out (am a total technophobe).

If all you want to know is how far you've gone and the time, you could always just use a normal stopwatch to time yourself and then plot your route when you get home to see how far it was. There are loads of sites that you can use, I normally use www.walkjogrun.net/. You could then calculate your average pace if you want.

you can also use runkeeper on android phones, not sure how detailed it is compared to the gadgets you can buy
