Advice please - tennis for the unco-ordinated!

I hope someone can help....my son is ten, and for the first time ever he's been inspired by Wimbledon (thank you, Andy!) I am more than happy to take him along to a local club which has cheap membership if you just want to hit with your kid.
My son absolutely will not go to a kids club - he hates them. He wants to play with me.
So my question is, he has hypermobility and he is very, very unco-ordinated. His hand eye co ordination is not good at all - he will swipe at balls and miss them a lot!
Is anyone out there able to advise on games/exercises we could do that could help DS to enjoy his tennis and start really gently. I think it could be really good to help his hand eye coordination but I don't want him to get fed up and defeated before he makes any progress, which he has a tendency to do.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

I'd buy some short tennis/touch tennis gear to start with: Smaller racquets, soft balls, perhaps a small net if you have the room?

A couple of private lessons with a coach might be an idea, after you've had a go with swing ball and the odd knock around between yourselves.
