your preferred running app?

for iPhone, would especially like one that helps me plot new routes as well as track my times but there are so so so so so very many I hoped you lot might be able to recommend something - thanks in advance

I'm fairly new to running but I love runkeeper. Not sure if you can plot new routes on it though, but it's great at tracking what you have done, you can link all runs on the same route to compare times and it has loads of training plans etc.

I have invested in a micoach gadget which is brilliant. I can plot my routes, it syncs with hr monitor, I can plan different types of runs - sprints/hr training/walk runs (and you get this voice telling you when to slow down and speed up). And you select your own playlist. Love it.

But if you don't want all that, I thought run keeper was v good :)

I know there are apps that save your routes and then other people can download them, so in turn you can get new ideas for your area if that makes sense? But am not doing very well at finding which ones they are!

i think 'mapmyrun' does all that sort of thing

Just be careful! There are certain obvious disadvantages to random strangers knowing your running routes ,and when you run them...

I use endomondo on my android phone.

My friends with iphones use runkeeper I think.

I hadn't even thought of that! Think I assumed it would be anonymised somehow and the app would just suggest alternative routes.

i use mapmyrun to map it, tell me how far i've gone and at what pace but don't share info (i struggle to care, never mind friends/strangers) but the option is there.

I really really really don't want one of those 'mitchy ran for ten minutes, had a cigarette and walked home' automatic FB updater type apps, I just thought it might be interesting to find new routes that I hadn't thought of.

Runkeeper looks promising though, something with lots of different plans. I get bored too easily.

oh it looks like mapmyrun is the one I was thinking of, you can find new route ideas but don't have to divulge your own - thanks, will try that too

I've been using RunDouble for C25K but you can't set your own distance/time, you just have to pick from a list. I'm trying Endomondo at the moment but I keep accidentally hitting the ad- not normally a problem but it keeps sending me to a porn site

I don't use apps for storing my routes, I just look on WalkJogRun if I fancy something new. Also if you want to plan a new route, google streetview is really good to get an idea of whether it would be suitable.

The Nike plus is really good, tracks you as you go, works well with music and the app keeps all your run stats plus their online app is really comprehensive.

Nice features such as attaboys and cheers make it a really well polished app

all the ones I downloaded are utterly useless because I had no telephone signal! Luckily my running companion of the day is with a better network and he uses Endomodo so was able to admire all my statistics when we got back.

It's not that I can't run without electronic help, it's just helpful isn't it and interesting - I wildly underestimated the distance but overestimated my speed for example.
