Have I got enough time to prepare for a 10k on the 19th May

There is a very popular 10K race in my town happening on the 19th May.

It is quite a tough course as it is hilly.

Do I have enough time to prepare? I have been running on and off for two years and could run for an hour last summer. Unfortunately I lapsed and have not run regularly for a few months.

I am also recovering from flu and have a chesty cough, although that is improving.

The on-line booking opens on Sunday and last year all the places had been taken in three hours so I need to decide whether I am going to enter before Sunday.

I would be grateful for any advice or words of encouragement.

TIA.

Go and do 5k at your own pace between now and Sunday. If it feels comfortable then apply and get training, if it feels uncomfortable in any way shape or form then do not apply.

I know you want encouragement but best to be safe rather than sorry.

Did you manage to fit a run in ? If so, how did it go ?

I'm no expert, but I'd say go for it! Just start easy and make a proper plan, increasing your distance steadily. I'm about to do my first half marathon and have been following a plan on the Adidas mi coach app. Good luck!
