Hi emin I had my trainers from decathlon and they had me on the treadmill to check my gait (sp?) and I had my trainers from there and they were only £40. Maybe worth a try??

wibblyjelly · 28/04/2013 14:30

W2 R2 completed, was hard going from the start, but I enjoyed it. I went for a run in my dsis local park (yes, if you were in Maldon prom earlier, the woman getting lapped by walking pigeons was meSmile ) but the weather was just right, and I managed to get through it from start to finish....

eminemmerdale · 28/04/2013 16:10

We don't havea decatholon near us, but I'm sure i can get it done at the gym. Really fed up though as i wanted to do another run tonight :(

wibblyjelly · 28/04/2013 21:18

I seem to have picked up my first injurySad . The top side of my left foot is painful to walk on, and wiggling my 2 littlest toes makes it hurt as well. Glad tomorrow is a rest day. I'm going to rest it, and my dsis who is a nurse has suggested ibroprofen. Hopefully when I run on Tuesday, it will be OK.

sparkle12mar08 · 29/04/2013 11:34

Signing in having just done w4 r1. Surprised myself at just how well I coped with the jump up to the five minute sections, though I did slow myself right down the first time. Well I thought I did but having looked at my pace stats on Endomondo, I was only a smidgen off my previous runs. Maybe my cardio fitness is springing back then? Did a lovely circuit of a nature reserve that's on my doorstep - sun shining, Highland cattle looking at me with that blank expression that only a bovine can do

It's also only the second time I've run in these new trainers. I pronate on both feet but one noticeably more so than the other, and whilst they're much better for my worst pronating foot, they're very firm on my least pronating one. I think it's leading to some tightness in that calf that I'm gong to have to be very careful to stretch out properly on rest days.

Sports bras - I think I might have found the one. Panache underwired Sports bra. Have tried Shock Absorber and they're just not supportive enough and nor are the Freya Actives. And the Freya's have the weirdest pointy-triangular east-west thing going on, very off putting. The Panache is a different beast entirely, and it is indeed a tank of a bra! Nicely shaped moulded cups encased in a no-bounce mesh outer layer, with an optional racer back to increase side support. I really like it so far. There's one more Shock absorber I'd like to try but otherwise I think I'll stick with the Panache. Think I'm going to shell out on some running tights too, I look like a plonker in these tracksuit bottoms and it's getting to the point where it's just too warm!

eminemmerdale · 29/04/2013 14:14

I have admitted defeat and am going to the doctor :( I cannot believe the pain I'm still in - my knees are stinging and throbbing. Fine when I got up this morning but as the day has worn I am having serious difficulty even walking. I just want to (an have!) cry.

jofeb04 · 29/04/2013 15:39

Hi all,

Can I join in with you? I am planning on starting the C25k next week (though have been saying next week for ages!). I want to do it (need to really), but so nervous about being "seen" running (am big!).

wibblyjelly · 29/04/2013 16:08

Eminem, that's such a shameSad . When's your appt? Let us know how you get on

wibblyjelly · 29/04/2013 16:10

Hi Jofeb, welcome! I started 2 and a half weeks ago, and its going well. I'm actually enjoying running, and looking forward to my next run, which I never thought would happen.

eminemmerdale · 29/04/2013 16:45

I will - it's tomorrow.

Hulababy · 29/04/2013 16:56

Just done week 1 day 1 - first time I have run for years!

Was fine though. Made 11y dd do it with me for moral support!

My only sticking point might be my knee as I have arthritis in one of them. Currently ok with the meds but will need to watch. Figured bough that even if cant go beyond the first few weeks of some short running bursts with walk between it is better than nothing.

I just need to get fit and just not enough time to fit in a gym.

dementedma · 29/04/2013 17:06

Well done Hula.
Should be W4 R1 tonight but have terrible squits and don't dare risk it. Would have to stop at every bush.
groan

elliemummaroos · 29/04/2013 18:24

Just tried to go for w2r1 and had to stop after the first run, my knee was just so painful! Have had a couple of small twinges but nothing major but it was actually painful tonight. Very unhappy and miserable so now feeling very sorry for myself Sad Ellie xXx

sparkle12mar08 · 29/04/2013 18:25

Oh dear demented, hope it passes soon!

HunterWellies · 29/04/2013 19:07

Hello runners old and new :)

Injuries are springing up everywhere aren't they? Oh dear... It seems very unfair when we are all making such an effort!

Speaking of which, I began week 7 today. 25 minute runs all week. I found it tough to be completely honest. I am soo slow, just about covered two miles in that time - seriously, you could walk that in 30 minutes!!

So, target for the next two (identical) runs: Go faster!!

wibblyjelly · 29/04/2013 20:13

I know what you mean Hunter. DH came out with me yesterday, when I started to run I looked to my left, and he was walking beside meSad . I've decided my aim of doing c25k is going to be running for 30 mins non stop, and concentrate on the distance later.

dementedma · 29/04/2013 20:18

Ouch Ellie. It is so frustrating isn't it? Just have to listen to your body and have a few days rest.
I am a very very slow "runner" too. Was passed by speed walkers last year in the Race for Life 5k but I don't care. I call it running and its the best I can do.

HalleLouja · 29/04/2013 20:53

I just did week 5 day 2 just now and after the first run I could have kept going but walked just to be safe. Remember people not that long ago I could run for 35 minutes.

I am a slower runner but definitely look like I am running.

Ellie put your feet up. It doesn't mean this has to be the end.

FoundAChopinLizt · 30/04/2013 14:02

ThanksThanks to all those with battle wounds. I hope everyone is fighting fit soon.

I got myself new trainers this am, after much research I worked out which are best for over pronators in the New Balance range, as I had a £10 voucher my speedy dd won in her last race.

Went to New Balance factory outlet shop, they had the right ones RRP £85 reduced to £45. They then had a further25% off plus my voucher meant they were £31! Unfortunately I celebrated with a charity shop trawl ( got lovely skinny FatFace crops £5 and a white stuff scarf £4).

So have test driven trainers with wk3 run1, they are lovely and springy and shins did feel better.

eminemmerdale · 30/04/2013 16:37

Ok, so after an inital (sort of ) diagnosis by the nurse of iliatibial bone sydrome, my doctor is concerned at the heat and swelling in the right knee. I am being sent off for x-rays as the bone could be chipped and the tendon is definitely injured :( Left knee not so bad, but worse because I am using it more. Well, that exercise at fitness was a good plan then!

BambinoBoo · 30/04/2013 18:18

Hi everyone. A newbie here. Just did week 1 run 1 today and thought I was going to vomit half way through but I did it and am rather proud of myself. Not particularly overweight, just at the upper end my my weight range but approaching 40 and unfit. Glad I took the plunge. Roll on Thursday.

wibblyjelly · 30/04/2013 18:24

Week 2 completed! Legs feel like they are on fire at the moment, but am sit going on the sofa feeling rather proud of myself Grin
One of my friends sent me the following link about tying your shoes properly. Its helped with my foot pain for this run.

Did W2 r3 today after a four day break due to a virus. It was HARD, felt like I'd gone back a step. Is it the gap between runs I wonder? Or could it be that I ran at 2pm today in the park because my sister was here to babysit. I usually run at night.

FraterculaArctica · 30/04/2013 20:42

Hello all, remembering I'd promised to post on this thread motivated me to do week 2 run 2 today! (finally) Theyoniway I felt I'd gone backwards too, but that was maybe because I ate a curry earlier in the evening! I think if we keep up the runs it will get easier even if it feels like we're taking a step back.

FoundAChopinLizt · 01/05/2013 07:44

TheOnly

Probably virus plus break! Anyway, full marks for perseverance Smile
