20 sec HIIT 3x day - anyone tried it

I'm finding it hard to spend enough time exercising to really increase my aerobic capacity and support weight loss, and have become interested in HIIT as a way of maximising my time. I was very interested to see the recent Horizon programme where a professor was advocating 20 seconds of extreme exercise 3x day 3x week, with good results for aerobic fitness for most people. It seems far too good to be true! Has anyone tried it? Otherwise could you suggest any other good HIIT regimes for the time-poor that can be done at home with a rower or running? Thanks

DP does it - but he does it in the lab rather than at home. Possible to do it at home - running up steep hills is the recommended way I think!

Thanks - does he do the 20 sec one or a longer one?

It depends! Sometimes he does 6 second series, sometimes does 30. Did you get my pm?

Yes I did thanks - will get the book. REally helpful.

Are you sure it's 20secs 3x a day?

"Classic" HIIT, Tabata training is 20 secs intense exercise (as hard as you can possibly work) then 10 secs rest, repeated 8 times to fill 4 mins. If you do it properly you won't do it 3 times a day...3 times a week just possibly Grin

Hill running also excellent interval training, find a slope you can run up in approx one minute, run up it, walk down, repeat 8-12 times. Warm up first, stretch after! Rower, same principle, whack up the intensity for one min, easy pace for one in recovery, repeat, etc....

Sleep - yes it should be 3 times a week, not a day.

If anyone saw the Horizon program you might be interested in the book based on the same research - The High Intensity Workout by Babraj and Lorimer Wink

That sounds more likely, also with repeated 20 second bursts with short rest periods in between, one 20 second session three times a week definitely sounds too good to be true!

Does anyone know if there is a HIIT workout programme that you could provide a link to? I'm interested in this too.

Theres an app based on the book above - hang on

www.topappstoday.com/apps-health+%26+fitness/586915155/the-high-intensity-workout here. Don't know what it's like though. The book has workouts in it. Oh (and just being pedantic here!) its not High Intensity Interval Training - its just High Intensity Training.
