Runners over here - have any of you had a lump on your ankle??

I've been getting pain on running in my right ankle, around my achilles which eases off after I've run for a while but then comes back with a vengeance when I stop. I noticed last week that I've got a lump on my ankle which is obviously what is causing the pain. There isn't one on the other side.

I am going to try and see the GP tomorrow to see what he thinks but I thought I would see if anyone had had something similar.

I am dreading the "you need to rest it" solution that they will no doubt suggest and I will probably ignore I've had spells of a couple of weeks without any running and its made no difference.

I've not had this (and I've had a wide and interesting range of exercise injuries). If the GP thinks it's a soft tissue thing (which it might be, if it's the tendon), they might either recommend diclofenac (which should help) or a physio (which will help more).

Its achilles tendonpathy (which apparently used to be called tendinitis). I've got an appointment for physio and she's referred me for an ultrasound to look at the lump. I'm on anti-inflammatories and she's suggested icing it as well. It is feeling much better (and I did go for a run on Saturday so I haven't been resting it as such). I haven't done my long run this week yet though so that will be the test. I've got a 10k the weekend after next so I need to get the runs in!
