Swimming (sponsored?) race in London Oct/Nov to aim for?

Hello

Occasional lurker on this thread. My ankle/foot is playing up, meaning running is proving difficult. Not a massive runner, but on a good week manage a couple of fairly short ones.

Thought that a version of a 10K run but in the water would be good to train/aim for. I used to compete for the local Borough as a child, so my technique is still ok, just need lots of stamina.

I can see the British Gas outdoor swimming series but frankly after a friend did a triathlon and talked about the brown I try not to think poo sludge that was attracted to her Vaselined face during the swim bit I have gone off the idea of outdoor swimming!

So, any ideas as to where I find a list of open to enter swims. Am guessing they need to be sponsored type rather than a race.

I have googled, but nothing obvious came up. Thinking Oct/Nov and ideally in London/surrounding area.

Any ideas as to where I should look?

TIA

The only indoor event I can think of is Swimathon but that's usually Easter sort of time.
