Help! Just started couch to 5k and I scared about going out again!! Need motivation

But remember to stretch - warm up walk, stretch, run, cool down, more stretching. It'll help, and ice is good when you get back, and ibuprofen that helps too!

Yes muscles - my legs, unsure of names but the biggy at front of thighs (quads maybe) are worst and also arms hurt (weird!)

did the strches before hand. Mind you I haven't been over the speed of a get the train before it goes walk

ilm doing the first week with 90 second walk/60 second run for 20 mins, and today it seemed to pass quicker than the first time (bar the bits up hill!) this is a good thing I am hoping.

Walking up stairs, sitting and standing up all make me go ouch though!

i'll probably be back on Friday looking for moral support for the third day

I've just completed week one of Couch to 5k. My run this morning was the hardest one yet probably because of all the gin consumed yesterday but I'm looking forward to week two.

i did the third run on Friday and also found it tough - I drove on regardles. I was done in at the end

Well done Moln! It really does get easier with each run. I did it earlier in the year and amazed myself by getting to about week 5 (the first week I couldn't imagine ever being able to run for more than a minute.) I worked up to 4k but then got a leg injury so haven't been for about 6 weeks.

I'm restarting it this week and dreading it a bit as I've been very lazy a bit unmotivated for the past couple of weeks and convincing myself I will die of a coronary half way round. Got my running buddy on stand-by who is a trained nurse so I'll be in good hands if it does all go tits up!

I'll check in here next week and see how you're all getting on

I have just tried to start this but I cam only manage to run for the minute three maybe four times! But I'm quite overweight I guess and have not exercised for years . Will it get better? Do I have to push myself for twenty minutes ? I'm pushing a buggy too . It's hard and I'm shit

Hi Ellovera. It does get easier, honest.

I'm not an expert but I wouldn't push yourself too hard, otherwise you'll scunner yourself of it and give up. Even if you walk more than run and just build up you should get there eventually. Good luck.

Ellovera stick with it, maybe do week one until you can run the minute eight times. There is no point pushing yourself to the point of thinking you are shit.

Hi Ellovera. Is there any way you could find time to run without the buggy to start with? For many of us, the running isn't just about fitness, but also about getting some time to yourself. That way you can concentrate on pushing yourself instead of pushing someone else!

Even with the buggy, you'll find that all of a sudden you can do what seemed impossible last week and before you know it you'll be 'a runner'!

Ooo tome to yourself? What's that!! I the run once this week without buggy it was nice actually . Will try that again ! Thankfully I live in the countryside an there are lots of safe places to run with nice views . I need to push myself a little bit I guess . Need music to listen to too I saw some people were talking about podcasts etc .

Yes, I definitely couldn't do it without music (the sound of my laboured breathing would panic me into thinking I'm about to die!)

I quite often think "I'll just try to make it to the end of this song" and then another one comes on that I love, so I think "I'll try to keep going til at least half way through this one too" and the little goals push you along until you've made it through 3 or 4 songs more than you thought you could!

Think nice views help too. We have a lake which I run round and lots of country parks. Change of scenery is good to mix things up and when you're paying attention to the view you're not thinking about how your legs feel like jelly

Oooh, just about to download this,I'm in Global Corporate Challenge at work where we have to monitor our steps every day and register them on a website, our team is against thousands of others and I'm overweight and unfit and have decided I might as well get the steps whilst trying to run!!
So going to Zumba tonight and it will be week one run one tomorrow evening!! Expect me back on here crying tomorrow!!

Hi how is everyone getting on? I am still on week 1 (just done day 2 run) and really unfit! I haven't done any exercise for 18months, before that I ran a bit but never been good at it therefore never enjoyed it.

I will stick with it because I feel pure afterwards and I'm determined to get to the 5k. At the moment my running minutes are more of a 'fancier walk' with knees buckling

I've not been to a gym for about 6 years (even then it took 8 mths to work up to running 1 measly mile) and sneaking into the 'obese' stage of BMI and have 3 stone to lose.

But I'm now on Day 3 of Week 2. Not been easy at all and I know if I wasn't doing it listening to the podcasts I wouldn't push myself.
Must look crap running and near the end of each run I want to stop - but urge myself to do it.
And I'd really chuffed with myself - all out of breath and sweating.

At the moment wouldn't run outside - I feel passers by would call an ambulance - so on the treadmill in the house. But when I'm comfortable with it, not wearing such skanky clothes to run in and not wobbling all over the place I'll go outside!

How different is running outside to running on a treadmill? I can manage 20 minutes on a treadmill (just) but I'm a bit scared of running outside as I have a tendency to fall into potholes. Is it harder?

I did week three run one on Sunday, will be going for run two on thurs, I'm amazed I've stuck to it and I I'd find the step up to week three tough. On the plus side I've got a PB in steps for my global corporate challenge today :)
