Help I need to loose weight and get smaller!! 30 day shred is making me bigger...

I tried the 30day shred and felt more toned but it made my legs bigger and they are big enough already!!

I can't run! What exercise will help me slim down?

I am thinking swimming? As I have a bad back and think that it will have to be running or swimming?

Is cycling going toile my legs bigger too??

How long were you doing it for? Sounds weird that it made your legs bigger

thestringcheesemassacre · 01/04/2012 17:16

Shred does more toning than weight loss, I think anyway. Love it for the guns you get.
Can you do cardio? Like a cross training/spin/aerobics program?

notsurewhyohwhy · 02/04/2012 08:38

I didn't complete the 30 days, I probably did about 20 days, I'm not sure if they actually got bigger, but they appear to look bigger as they are muscly...

I hate spin class Sad would cycling in the park etc be as useful as spin?

Also I have a bad back and exercising can aggravate it, that's why I was thinking perhaps swimming would be good and it is less stressful on the back, but is it much of a cardio work out?

Have you tried measuring? Might reassure you that your legs aren't getting bigger - it would be unusual (although not impossible) for your legs to bulk up so much in 20 days that they were actually bigger.

My legs do this if i exercise, I've just accepted that is the way I am. I have sprinters thighs. The only time they were ever smaller was when I cut right down on carbs and wasn't doing a huge amount of exercise, but of course they came straight back once I started training again.

notsurewhyohwhy · 02/04/2012 12:59

I think I am similar if I cut back on carbs and don't train I am more Likely to appear similar but will be less toned! That means I will have to eat a lot less, but I really don't want to do the whole no carbs as I don't want to cut out fruit completely!!

When I did it I cut back on pasta, rice, bread etc and refined sugar. I ate fruit sensibly and stocked up on veg. I didn't think about the fat content in meat, so meant I could have some nice steak or duck abd feel like I'd had a nice meal. It definitely worked for me when i was losing weight for my wedding so I was hugely motivated. I also swapped normal tea for green tea.

Exercise was quite minimal because I knew it would mean I have a big bum and thighs. Just your typical sprinters shape.

So how much did you have to loose? And how long did it take?

My problem is that I really want to loose weight but don't seem to be able to keep motivated Sad

how about some yoga or pilates

that's all about toning and long lean muscles

probably good for your back too

bit of swimming on the side and less carbs

whenskiesaregrey · 03/04/2012 22:33

I lost over a stone and a half and it took me about 12 weeks, although I lessened off toward the end as I could see I was going to reach my target easily. So I probably could have done it in 8-10 weeks if I had kept the intensity up.

It was the motivation of getting married that did it for me, because it was very very hard sometimes. Especially to begin with when I was craving sugar. But once I had beaten the cravings for a day or two, it got easier. The next most difficult thing after that is finding enough interesting recipes!

notsurewhyohwhy · 04/04/2012 17:09

yes i think i need to give yoga and pilates another try, i sometimes feel with them that i am not doing enough as i am not out of breath.

whenskie - that great, what was your starting weight? as i only want to loose a stone i worry that it will take ages.

I was just over 10 stone and DS was about 10 months old, so was lingering in losing the weight I had gained when pregnant. Because I'm quite slight on top with small boobs and arms, for the first time ever I felt in proportion when my thighs and bum narrowed down.

However, currently 26 weeks pregnant and the bum and thighs have well and truly made a comeback!

yoga and pilates are great for flexibility but will do almost nothing for cardiovascular fitness..excepting perhaps some of the more energetic varieties of yoga which tend to require a high level of gymnasic ability.
