Spokey Joe/child trailer or child bike seat

OUr LO is just a year old, and I'd really like to be able to go cycling with her. Which is better, a bike seat or trailer? I like the idea of a seat but am worried it'll feel wobbly, am worried that a trailer isn't as safe on the road and a bit wide for busier cycle paths.
Any recommendations for either? Any advice would be fantastic!

I love my trailer - found bike seat really unbalanced me, and didn't like how far ds might fall if bike fell. As it is, I fell off my bike with trailer attached, looked up to find unperturbed ds sitting gazing at me. Trailer isn't that wide, so fine for paths. I don't like cycling on busy roads (and we're semi-rural) so can't really answer that. Trailer good in rain/wind too.

We're pretty rural here, too, and wouldn't be going on busy roads with the trailer, but would be on quiet roads with it a lot.... The cycle ways around us are built on old railway lines, and are pretty narrow and can be busy-ish, hence my concern!

Your child will get a better view from a bike seat and it's easier to talk to them and point things out. I found bike seat less wobbly than front panniers, tho' had to have both for commuting with DS1.

Even the lightest trailer will add to your load more than a bike seat. With 2 DSs we have a trailer which is 11kg on its own.
