Thanks, mad4, that describes it really well, actually! Hopefully as I get more stamina, the breathing will get easier. I'm also on a diet hoping to lose my last stone, so maybe that'll be better if I'm not lugging an extra stone around, too! fingers crossed. Good luck wiht the training, everyone.

Well I have been officially rubbish this week and I'm blaming the weather and DH unusually long hours this week.
Any hints on dealing with the very cold rain?

loubielou31 · 23/01/2012 20:38

Other that mtfu juice which is what my DH suggests.

mad4 · 24/01/2012 10:16

Tee Hee ! loubielou MTFU juice, i like that Grin

but i will go out in all weathers, just get yourself a decent running jacket and some gloves so the wind dosent chill you and the rain dosent really matter. you do get some funny looks but i care not. in fact, i find running in the rain and cold much easier than running in the heat.

i did 15k yesterday
it took me ages and i had loads of walk breaks but i did it, and i was soooo proud of myself when i got home. but in fairness it was a beautiful morning here, really still, and cold but with bright sunshine, perfick Grin

Hello! can I join you guys?

I have been an on and off runner for a few years but generally fade after 3 or 4 weeks of training. But since 28 Dec I have been running 3 times a week. Current plan is to do the following each week
one short fast run - currently 3-3.5k as fast as I can to build up speed and get my legs used to running faster. Eventually this will turn into some interval training I think but that will have to wait for brighter evenings or mronings (yuck, hate running in the morning)
one 5k run - medium pace, pushing myself a bit but not too much
one long slow run - between 6.5-8km, nice and slow, aim is to do this at the weekend through the local parks

Main aim is to get fit, and as I am going skiing in 2 weeks, not collapse on the slopes after half an hour. Am feeling a lot more confident about that than I was at Christmas so that's good.

After that, I want to get my 5km time under 30 mins. I am a fair bit over that at the moment. Might think about entering a 10k in May or June as well to keep me doing longer runs.

loubielou - I find the worst thing is getting out there. Once you start, it's not so bad. Telkl yourself that you're just putting your gear on. I tend to find that by the time I've tied my laces, I'm mentally half way out the door.

Gloves and probably ear muffs are a good idea (not cool though). Also like the "just putting it on" mind game, thank you ladies.
I'm just aiming for the next run. Although I've promised myself I will have lost my remaining stone of babyweight by Easter. (baby is 2!)

Quodlibet · 04/02/2012 19:03

Right, your mind game got me out of the house this morning and completing my first ever 5km run, which I be been building up to through Jan. 32mins 50 so quite pleased with that!

Freebutton, that sounds like a good training programme, maybe I'll aim to build up to something like that next? I'd like to get a 10km under my belt in 2012.
