cycling in winter - what to wear on bottom half?

I've managed to ditch my ancient running bottoms which I've been wearing for cycling for ages but realised that I don't have anything comfy and warm-ish

I'm a bit Hmm about the idea of 'tights' as I'm not really athletic-looking enough (am 5'7", size 12, sturdy of thigh ...)

I saw these in the Sweaty Betty catalogue but I'm not sure if the skirt bit would just look a bit silly?

These look fab but they don't have them in my size

any other ideas?

Summer I wear baggy cycling shorts with proper padded shorts underneath.
Winter I add tights in between, padded shorts, tights, baggy shorts or I wear long baggy tshirts that I nick from dp

Why not get running bottoms again, since you know you like them?
I wear anything comfy, really.

Size 12? How big can your thighs be? FWIW, cyclists always have athletic thighs.

ok I know I'm not fat but I've always had sturdy, muscular legs and cycling has just accentuated that ... I think that in order to wear tight lycra you really need to be a bit more willowy ...

however, I do want something warm and flexible which won't get caught in my chain

I'm not particularly fond of running bottoms, it's just that was all there was in my wardrobe when I started cycling more ...

I wear padded cycling shorts with a pair of running trousers over the top - they're not tights but not loose at the bottom either so don't get caught in anything.

And be proud of your strong legs!
