I have never run. I'm thinking of trying. I'm scared.

I am unfit and currently very sedentary. I suddenly have a lot of time on my hands whilst I'm looking for a job and inspired by Charlie Brooker's piece this week, I thought I might give it a go.

I've looked at the app he talks about and it starts off with 60 second bursts of running, but I don't think I could even manage that!

I'm worried that I'll just find it too hard/embarrassing...

Any advice gratefully received.

Summerrain, your excuses reasons are quite convincing actually...

Yay, madam, nervous/excited is difinitely how I still feel about it. Good luck!

SummerRain - when I was preparing for my first marathon, I met an amazing female runner, who was there to motivate us/give us tips (we were running for a charity).

She works full time (and travels abroad extensively), is a single parent to two children (she was sadly widowed last year, her mum is her childcare), runs lots and lots of voluntary running groups for children and adults of all ages, and - get this - runs 140 miles a week. In case you didn't read that right - 140.

When I asked how the hell she managed, she just shrugged and said "I get up early". Shock

Whilst that's something I could never hope to achieve, I do think that if you really, really want to do it you find a way to make it work.

You lot are amazing - you're doing more than 90% of the population by even getting out there and giving it a go. Those first few runs are the hardest, it will never be this hard again unless you want it to be!

Well I did it!

Wasn't as bad as I thought, mate the walking and 10 mins of cycling I do does help.

Broke my damn headphones though on a bush. Slight groin pain on one side.

Off to have boiled eggs! (that won't last)

Nice one Madam! Glad it wasn't horrendous for you.

Well, I managed the first run!

It was not as bad as I expected. Did it on the treadmill in the gym at an incline of 2... managed the breathing and everything, but my bottom did feel like it was going to bounce over my head Blush

Next run scheduled for Thursday!

Run 2 done! Seemed to go quicker than first one which is impossible but never mind.

Run 3 Tuesday night, two nights rest so curious if it will be harder to do.
