Couch to 5k 2011 Part Four: Post even if you haven't run!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 19/10/2011 21:42

Yet more space for us to talk about our progress on the Couch to 5K programme, the stuff we wear, the music we listen to, the gadgets we use and our nail varnish.

New runners are warmly welcomed - come and give it a whirl, you know you want to! There has been a lot of success on this thread, both in the UK and internationally, moral support is abundant, and there is always a kick up the arse for anyone who needs one!

Some of us are on our second time round now, so don't worry that you will be behind, just jump in whatever stage you are at.

Xmas Shock at maybe's neighbour's roof landing in her garden! Glad you're ok though.

LinzerTinsel · 08/12/2011 20:54

Noooo Nell, don't give DH ideas! Xmas Wink

brighthair · 08/12/2011 20:57

I heard my name Grin
Wound redressed today with aquacell?! And dressing on top. No baths, no getting it wet, no running and no marital relations Sad
Take away all my fun!! Well she didn't say no cake or alcohol Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 08/12/2011 21:52

Nell I've got used to the short battery life now, but it was a shock to start with. Mine charges up very quickly though, I charge it every other day or so, but usually checkit when I get up, if I plug it in then it is charged by the time I go to work.

Brighthair cake and wine sounds like a very good plan in this weather.

I have been a bit two faced today, bottled out of running but still took the Dcs to tennis, they were quite happy playing out in the wind and rain while I drank tea in the clubhouse.

mollycuddles · 08/12/2011 22:05

Hi everyone. And lovely new runners. I went AWOL a few weeks back. Work insane and just exhausted with dd2's continued sleep avoidance. But I'm still running. Even ran in the hail and wind earlier. Did a 10k on 19th November in new PB of 67.56. Still no 5k in under 30 minutes but have a few parkruns coming up. My new running club buddies are fab even though I run 1km in the time it takes them to run a mile!

Trying to decide on my running goals for 2012. Faster 10k or a half marathon? So glad I started c25k last feb.

JingleNells · 08/12/2011 22:49

Eminently sensible, WhoKnows. Hope you had cake with it. I must just get into the habit of charging it up - thought there must be something wrong with it because it needed it so often so glad it's not just me. You need to go out tomorrow and buy this because it looks fabulous over red, like your Double Decker. These pics don't do it justice. It is glittertastic.

I would be quite :) at no marital relations brighthair. Extramarital, well now you're talking. Xmas Grin

You are marvellisimo! I, on the other hand, am a lazy cow.

brighthair · 08/12/2011 23:27

Given I am single then they are extramarital I guess Wink but there will be none of that either
May have to venture to the gym - thinking walking on an incline should be ok

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 08/12/2011 23:33

Nell you are so right, that is just what I need to go over the double decker red which I will be putting on tomorrow night for a party on Sat, but not sure where I would get it at such short notice! Hmmm.....

KristinaM · 09/12/2011 05:47

Well done molly on your PB

Brighthair, i hope yiu are feeling better. I also snorted at use of phrase " marital relations"' i assume the nurse is 80,didnt know anyone still said that.

How is knee linzer?

Was readimg park run newsletter yesterday and wondering if i shoudl try my firs run befroe end of the year. I was looking at the times to see if i would be last Blush

LinzerTinsel · 09/12/2011 07:14

I know how you feel Kristina - I was also quite worried about coming last when I did the town run (while I was still doing C25k), but ended up coming 5th out of 8 in my age group, so I'm sure you'll be fine.

The knee seems OK so far today thanks, but I don't want to risk a run. I'll either start running again or go back to the doctor's next week, depending on how it is.

brighthair Cake and alcohol would be enough to keep me happy. Xmas Grin

WhoKnows / Nell I knew the battery life was short, but as long as I can charge it overnight (which is what a friend told me she does) I can live with that. I only started getting worried when DH said that quite a few of his colleagues complain that it only lasts half a day - I asked him this morning what they're actually doing, and he said "e-mailing and synchronising". Apparently the battery gets used up more quickly when you're abroad, too. I'm sure it will be fine for me, as I wouldn't do much more than write the odd e-mail or have a quick browse most of the time, but DH is hoping that his old Nokia will hold out for as long as possible (he travels abroad quite a bit for work).

China Glaze for Audrey is still looking lovely btw Nell - Day 2 and only one small chip so far. I'm impressed! Xmas Smile

KristinaM · 09/12/2011 07:22

Glad the knee is holding up linzer

When i was reading the time results from the last race, i relaised that if i ran in the next few weeks i would be about 75th in my age group. But if a wait a few weeks until my birthday i could be in the top 50.

The fact that i have worked this out makes me LOL at my own vanity. Like anyone knows or cares.......

I just didnt want to be last......the fact that i should be able to beat soem over 60s and soem 14 year olds has cheered me up immenseley

Grin Grin

LinzerTinsel · 09/12/2011 07:25

Well, I was 39 when I did the race but they included me in the 40-50 age group. Shock (I think they went by year of birth.) Not necessarily a bad thing, however...

KristinaM · 09/12/2011 08:11

I am 49 and the only advantage i have spotted to beijg 50 is that i will be able to run so much fasterGrin

LinzerTinsel · 09/12/2011 08:20

I have a friend in her fifties who beat me by about five minutes in the 3.3k. But then she's always been depressingly extremely fit.

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 09/12/2011 09:10

Lovely day here today, hope to fit in a run this afternoon. Although I would rather snuggle up in front of the telly and finish my Christmas cards, but I can do that tonight as DH is going out.

Nell / Linzer the newest iphones (4S) had a very bad problem with the battery running out when they came out, but they are supposed to have fixed this now. I try and pop mine on the charger before I go to bed every other night (the charger is permanently plugged in in our house as we have a clutch of ipods, my iphone and and ipad all jostling to use it)

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 09/12/2011 14:16

Well, I've been, can't say I terribly enjoyed it as the sun had disappeared and an icy cold wind kicked in, I was slow, but never mind, managed 30 mins anyway. Also had a 45 min brisk walk with a friend this morning round a lake in the sunshine, so I think I have fulfilled my exercise quota for December this week.

Waves at Mollycuddles welcome back to the thread, you are doing so well! It's good to hear from you again.

JingleNells · 09/12/2011 16:21

It was freezing today, hats off to you for going out at all WhoKnows. Did you get the glittery red? Or was there no nail varnish shop on your running route? Xmas Wink I've been out shopping, well blethering really with a friend today and it has been lovely. Cleaned the house earlier and am about to set the fire - just hope it doesn't set the chimney alight as it needs swept. Still there would be the added bonus of firemen I suppose ...

Glad the nails are holding up Linzer, it's such a lovely colour - I need to change mine tonight as it is all sloppy looking now and my reindeer's noses have chipped off.

Have been charging phone nightly now too, don't want any daytime emergencies when I'm out and about and can't get on MN do I?

I'm going to go and find Pistey and ask her about that shoe ...

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 09/12/2011 18:26

Didn't go to any shops except Sainsburys today Nell, so no to glittery red. I am not sure anywhere in my small market town would sell China Glaze anyway. However I have noticed some lovely nail glitters in Superdrug, no reds, just lots of purples and turquoises

I did find this beautiful red item in Sainsburys today though....

Absolut Raspberri

JingleNells · 09/12/2011 18:31

Oh yumptious. That looks delicious. Mmmmm. With lots of ice. Restorative. And medicinal.

You could always nick the glitter out of the children's art supplies, sprinkle it on liberally and top coat it. Not that I have ever done that, oh no.

Xmas Grin
LinzerTinsel · 09/12/2011 19:19

Well done on getting out, WhoKnows - 30 minutes at any speed is far better than no run at all. I can't remember when I last ran for 30 minutes; I expect my iPod would tell me, but I don't want to depress myself.

Someone showed me an article that said that, although the 4S has a bigger battery (not physically bigger, but YKWIM) it lasts for even less time than the battery on the 4. I shall report back on charging frequency once my phone finally arrives!

Ooh, reindeer Nell - I need something festive. I think something red would go rather well with China Glaze for Audrey. Disaster has struck, however - my Rimmel top coat has gone MIA! I'd got it out for DD2, who also wanted CGFA on her nails, but it has vanished into thin air.

DH has asked if he can select a nail colour for his work Christmas party, but CGFA is still looking good. Ha!

LinzerTinsel · 09/12/2011 19:30

I was expecting your link to be to nail polish WhoKnows and was veryConfused by the shape of the bottle. Shall we order a case between us for a virtual thread Christmas party? Xmas Grin

DD2 has just come downstairs in tears because she wanted to suck her thumb. However, she cheered up immensely when she realised how good CGFA tastes. Xmas Hmm

JingleNells · 09/12/2011 20:11

What, just the one? Xmas Shock

Poor DD2, maybe she would like a snowman on one of her fingers ... white polish, black dots (use end of paintbrush or pen) and orange carroty nose. Top coat it so it doesn't come off. Tis v. cute. My (not so young DD2) did this yesterday and it looks very sweet. Would upload Rudolph pics to profile for you to see if I could figure out how to do it. Oh maybe if I send them to my email ...

LinzerTinsel · 09/12/2011 20:44

Hmm, I have no white polish, would Tipp Ex do? Xmas Wink And still no sign of my top coat either - I must have a proper look for it tomorrow. Otherwise I sense a shopping trip is in order. Xmas Grin I have been googling but I suspect this is beyond my artistic capabilities. Plus DD2 has teeny tiny nails so I'm not sure anything that detailed would fit onto them in any case.

JingleNells · 09/12/2011 21:09

Ooh that's pretty! I've put a couple of pics on my profile for a bit of my girls nails - at tippex. Just buy a cheapy white one to play around with. I believe you can put black dots on with a Sharpie but not tried it yet. Our top coat has done a runner here too - about the only thing that has. Xmas Grin

JelliBelli · 09/12/2011 22:32

Hello everyone,

I am so sorry about your shredding injuries ladies, really! I didn't have any problems so it didn't occur to me to warn you that you might. I feel badly now....

My word there's been plenty of nail garnish talk here lately. I had a flat battery last weekend (I left the interior light on - duh!) and tried to wrestle the battery out of the car but had to give up having broken three more nails. Aaargh!! and they were just getting long enough again. After a prompt from DD I jump started it from DH's car, so I was back on the road again, but with the wretched breaks. They'll grow again eventually I guess.

Well, I ran tonight. I had to drop DH's car at the garage and didn't have a lift home so I ran home. I haven't run since last Tuesday
